Europa Hotel, Belfast 19/10/14

A big shout out to 2nd Shooter for the awesome match photos!

Pro Wrestling Ulster have enjoyed a string of well received shows of late, none more so than their first Supershow in Belfast’s Europa hotel. As with that previous outing in August, PWU’s big attraction at the second Supershow was an import, this time in the shape of another former WWE star, Matt Sydal.

It may have been in the WWE that Sydal earned a degree of worldwide fame as the underappreciated “Evan Bourne”, but Sydal has been a performer of enormous ability for a much longer period. Prior to signing with the WWE, he made his name as one of North America’s most exciting prospects. His unique ability was strong enough to see him enjoy an eye-catching run in Ring of Honor, and consequently reap the rewards for Dragon Gate in Japan; winning championship gold; a huge achievement for a foreigner.

In the much anticipated main event then, Sydal did not disappoint, as he took the fight to fan-favourite Tucker, who had been selected beforehand to be the chosen opponent for the international star. This was a furiously fast-paced effort for the most part, with both pulling out all the stops to delight the Belfast crowd. In one memorable moment, Sydal came off the top rope but was nailed with a nasty Superkick. He was more successful in landing several of his trademark kicks, and even landed his impressive looking “Here it is driver”, before ultimately losing via pinfall to the champion.

Following the bout, nefarious heel, Tron, hit the ring and attacked Tucker, before Luther Valentine made the save, and Sydal nailed the giant villain with a Shooting Star Press. All three good guys celebrating together made for a really nice feel good ending that sent the crowd home happy.

He wonders if people will even read this bit...
