Presented by Blunt Fringe Productions, The Last Five Years by Jason Robert Brown comes to The Lyric Theatre‘s Naughton Studio from 24th June – 4th July.

This is a beautiful, emotionally powerful musical about Jamie, a talented up and coming novelist who falls in love with Cathy, a struggling actress and takes place over a five year period. Their story is told entirely through songs but with a clever device; all of Cathy’s songs begin at the end of their marriage and move backwards in time while Jamie’s songs start at the beginning of their affair and move forward to the end of their marriage.  They physically meet on stage only once, at their wedding.

After opening off-Broadway in 2002, the show has since won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Music and Lyrics and a film adaptation starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan was released in the US in February this year.  The performance is directed by Stephen Whitson and stars Fra Fee (Les Miserables, Follies, Dirty Dancing) and Amy Lennox (recently announced as female lead in Kinky Boots, and played Doralee in 9To5 UK tour last year).
