A slightly ambiguous title I know, but let me explain…On Thursday The MAC unveiled all manner of Christmassy treats for the festive season, so I took Pastiebap Jr to see what they had on offer.  It started when we entered and a lovely elf showed us to some free hot chocolate, pick n mix and chocolate tree decorations (all supplied for free by Lidl), then, stuffed with all things sweet we waddled towards the Grotto.

Christmas at The MAC

Pastiebap Jr (Max) is only 3 months old so this was his first trip to see Santa and what a lovely trip it was.  A kind elf showed us around in a private 5 minute session where we posted his letter to the big man, saw where the toys were made and eventually had a natter and a photo with Santa Claus himself.

This was almost like a mini play and I have to say I was really pleased with the whole experience,  it really was top class from the design to the costumes and the execution.  You can see us with Santa in the photos (I’m the bigger kid grinning like an idiot).  We got a wee gift for under the tree too and baby Max was happy and didn’t cry throughout!  As we left the crowds were just starting to head outside to unveil the Christmas window.

Christmas at The MAC

A hark back to when Christmas windows were all the rage in Belfast, this was designed by a local family who were invited up to help rip off the giant wrapping paper and reveal the winning design.  Underneath were some of the cast of The MAC’s upcoming Christmas show  – The Family Hoffman’s Mystery Christmas Palace –  and they performed one of the illusions from the show, much to the delight of the all ages crowd.

After this we all went inside for some more hot chocolate and the arrival of Santa to turn on the Xmas tree lights.  I wasn’t sure of the white leaf like design of this year’s Christmas tree, but once I saw it all lit up like…well like a Christmas tree… I became a fan. Beside us a choir sang hymns and we marveled and listened.  All in all it was a great evening of family fun and thoroughly got us into the Christmas mood, the only thing missing was some mince pies, and maybe a hot toddy or two!
