As you may know, we at PastieBap have tried a few escape rooms in our time, and from London to Riga, we have managed to escape them all within the allotted  hour. With this in mind, you can imagine our trepidation as we entered the world of Timescape Belfast, Belfast’s newest escape room located on Castle Street. Would we escape in time? You’re about to find out!

One of the most professional escape game outfits that we have ever seen, Timescape Belfast is the real deal, and with a comfortable waiting area, recognisable branding, and a clear idea of exactly what they are doing, this is definitely something to get excited about, especially in little old Belfast.

After entering through the iPhix shop downstairs, we ascended the stairs into the plush waiting area, complete with leaderboard (a very nice touch which gets your competitive streak going from the moment you walk through the doors) and friendly games master. After a brief talk about the rules and regulations we were given a little tablet to take notes on (another nice touch) and lead to the door of the room.

The theme of the room was ‘Titanic The Final Hour’ and from the porthole window on the door, you can already tell that this is going to be an experience before you even enter the room. After a brief setting of the scene the door is locked behind us and a screen on the wall counts down the 60 minutes we have to escape. The screen is also used to give hints and to tell you if you have guessed any clues correctly.

To tell you much more might spoil the surprise, but let’s just say that everything from the decor of the room, to the delivery of the clues and guidance throughout the game was top class; not to mention the atmospheric sound effects in the background which helped to make this an immersive experience.

Unlike other escape rooms that we have tried, Timescape’s Titanic The Final Hour has a real thread holding it all together; it’s less like a mad scramble to find random clues, and more of a big puzzle, which our whole team really enjoyed. It really felt like we were on the Titanic as it began to sink, you also didn’t need any prior knowledge, and the difficulty of the clues catered to all types of brain which helped to keep everyone entertained.

We escaped the room with a little over 16 minutes to spare, and even made the leaderboard which we were thrilled about. With plans to open a Murder Mystery and a Sci-Fi room this year, we can’t wait to go back and try Timescape Belfast very soon. If you haven’t already, follow Timescape on Facebook or visit their website here to book an escape room NOW!
