The first thing you should know before going to see the Sister Act musical is that they do not sing any songs from the original film.  Once you know and accept this it is a thoroughly enjoyable night at the Grand Opera House in Belfast and at around 3 hours (including breaks) it is certainly value for money too!

The warning attached to this production is: ‘Sister Act is a non-professional production brought to you by Belfast Operatic Company‘. However, this warning is not needed. The standard is high from all the performers and the set, choreography, direction etc is all of West End quality.   There are some tremendous set pieces (such as the inside of the church) and when they’re filled by over 40 nuns and a cast of over 50 the sheer scale of this ‘non-professional’ production hits you.  A mammoth undertaking for any company, but one that’s pulled off with aplomb and a great dose of fun by the Belfast Operatic Company.

This is a great show for all the family and although the songs are new they do feel like you’ve heard them before and you find yourself humming them on the way out.  They even had a few jokes about there being Protestants in the crowd that had the whole place laughing, adding some local humour to things.  Sister Act at the Grand Opera House truly was a religious experience!
