Belsonic: Rudimental

Belsonic returns to Belfast for its 8th annual instalment with fantastic music acts from around the globe including Paloma Faith, Hozier and Rudimental. The BRIT award winning act have had a meteoric rise to fame and headline the festival on Saturday with support from UK dance powerhouse Duke Dumont.

Woodstock Rhythm & Blues Festival
12 – 19 August

The 8th annual Woodstock Rhythm & Blues Festival features a fantastic line up of seasoned performers and rising stars of the blues scene. This year’s festival will see the likes of Chris Farlowe, Rab McCullough, Ronnie Greer plus many more take to the stage in venues throughout the city.

Elvis Tribute Anniversary
14 – 15 August
Crumlin Road Gaol
Watch an extraordinary tribute performance to one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century as Ciaran Houlihan (European Elvis Champion) and his band present ‘Jailhouse Rock’, the Elvis Tribute, a concert brilliantly capturing the musical life of The King of Rock n’ Roll.

Strand Arts Centre Monthly Heritage Tour
Saturday 15 August
Strand Arts Centre, East Belfast
Enjoy a monthly heritage tour with The Strand’s expert projectionist and film enthusiast Alan McClurg. Hear about The Strand’s history, its unique Art Deco architecture and traditional movie theatres. Get behind the scenes to see the workings of both the original 35mm film projector and digital projectors.

Laser Crafts at FabLab
Friday 14 August
The Ashton Centre, Churchill Road, Belfast
If you are interested in paper crafts, slate engravings or pyrography, come along to Fablab and see the extent to which a laser cutter can be used to help augment traditional processes. Participants will be guided through the processes of designing something on the computer and translating this to the laser cutter for manufacture.

Diddley Bows at The Dirty Onion
Thursday 13 August – Friday 18 September
The Dirty Onion, Cathedral Quarter
As part of August Craft Month, Andrew Cooke, maker of unusual ceramic instruments and strange things, will be exhibiting his new range of Diddley Bow slide guitars in The Dirty Onion until 18 September, concluding with a jam session on homemade instruments on Culture Night.

Discover Wonderland
Saturday 1 – Monday 31 August
Victoria Square
Come and see Victoria Square’s magical transformation into a wonderland to mark the 150th anniversary of ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’. Start in the rabbit hole in the iconic dome, travel past the magic mirrors onto the tea time zone, through the rose garden to colour-in and play croquet and explore the 6ft maze. Victoria Square will also be providing craft activities, face painting and storytelling every Saturday.

Food & Fun at Moira Demesne

The Speciality Food Fair celebrates the best of Northern Ireland’s local food producers and will feature an artisan food market, kitchen demo sessions, gourmet street food and a café bar to relax, enjoy your food and a few tunes from local musicians. There will also be plenty of family fun with craft workshops, storytelling and much more.

Native and Traditional Breeds Weekend
Saturday 15 – Sunday 16 August
Ulster Folk & Transport Museum
See traditional breeds of cattle, horses, pigs, poultry and sheep including Irish Moiled cattle, Saddleback pigs, Clydesdale horses and display of working donkeys across the outdoor folk museum. Hear about the history of these animals and how they came to be important breeds, enjoy craft stalls and butcher’s shop and bring your pet along for a dedicated pet show on Sunday.
