I’ve wanted to try City Picnic for a while but haven’t seemed to have found time so I was delighted on Sunday to get the chance.  On arrival I was a little worried about being cold – it was a freezing day and it’s quite a spacious restaurant with sliding automatic doors so definitely a concern.  It turns out I needn’t have worried at all!  It was lovely, cosy and very comfortable; despite all the tables being wooden picnic tables.  The music was great too – very much my taste with a lot of pop mixed in with some My Chemical Romance and Puddle of Mudd.  It could easily have been my playlist they were playing!

When you arrive you can pick your own table and then you order your food at the bar and pay before eating (think Wetherspoons).  The service was unbelievably fast which was great but made me wonder would the food maybe not be great as it could have been sitting a while.  Turns out I could not have been more wrong – the food was fresh, hot and absolutely delicious!  I had the cheeseburger with chorizo, garlic fries and a strawberry milkshake.  All just beautiful!  The only complaint I had was that it was too hot and I couldn’t eat it fast enough!  The chorizo was a good change to bacon which is my usual; it gave the burger a bit of extra meatiness without the saltiness of bacon.  Garlic fries were lovely, a little different as they were made with garlic salt rather than garlic butter but they were really good.  Although I had a strawberry milkshake they had an array of flavours from the classics like banana and chocolate to a little more unusual with caramel and peanut butter.  At our table we tried a few and they were all yum!

The food itself is not overly expensive and really good quality so I’d definitely recommend City Picnic to anyone who likes a good burger and fries.  I’m already planning my next trip!
