The Curran Court Hotel has been a staple in Larne since the 1970’s, and one that absolutely everyone speaks fondly of. Now located at Larne Harbour, this is the perfect spot for a hotel, as it provides travellers and truckers coming off the ferry with a room for the night and a scrumptious meal too boot.

The restaurant itself is a sprawling affair, with a large main dinning room giving way to a few additions in the form of a conservatory and adjoining side dining room. Heavy chairs and clean white tablecloths give the place a very traditional atmosphere, one which is mirrored in the menu itself.

A vast array of starters are on offer and the style varies from the more old-fashioned Egg Mayonnaise, Prawn Cocktail and Fan of Melon to the modern Cheesy Garlic Bread, Stuffed Garlic Mushrooms and Chicken Goujons. A personal favourite however, would be the Deep Fried Brie, which is served with a tangy Raspberry Coulis.

I defy you not to find something you want to eat on this menu, the selection is so varied, and you can get everything from Lasagne, Curry and Surf & Turf to Grilled Gammon, Open Prawn Salad and Chicken Maryland. There’s also a great choice of roast meats on offer such as Turkery & Ham, Roast Beef and Stuffed Pork Fillet. The menu may be traditional, but the food is very, very good. Fresh ingredients are used, and everything is cooked from scratch. The prices are also extemely reasonable, especially in relation to the portion sizes.

Most meals are served silver service style, with massive plates of veg and potatoes dotted all over the table to accompany your meal. Look out for the Straw Potatoes, they are legendary, and I’ve never tasted anything like them anywhere else!

At the Curran Court the food is fresh, the portions are hearty and the service is second to none, from start to finish you are looked after and the staff really can’t do enough for you. A special shout-out goes to George!
