I’m going to keep this review simple, just like the very premise of Dina Dina itself. They basically make piadinas, ‘what’s a piadina?’ I hear you ask.  Well, it’s Italian flat bread, a bit like a tortilla, warmed and then loaded with fresh ingredients.  It really is that simple – a formula that relies solely on having the best ingredients, because there’s nowhere to hide if it doesn’t taste great.

In keeping with this simple way of doing things I had their classic flat bread – tomatoes, mozzarella and pesto.  Of course they have others with chicken and sausage and all sorts of delicious things on them, but I wanted to try it at the base level.  It’s all made in front of you, like Boojum (I guess if something works why break it?), so you can see what they’re working with.

I have to say it works tremendously well, the bread was warm and soft, the cheese slightly melted, the tomatoes fresh and sweet and the pesto had a zing and a tanginess that brought it all together.  I also had a small pizza which I enjoyed a lot too.  As this type of ‘street food’ becomes more popular in Belfast and NI in general it’s important that the emphasis is on the ingredients and the taste and I feel with Boojum, Slums and Dina Dina heading it up, that these things are definitely going in the right direction.
