Netflix and Amazon have been battling it out these past few weeks with a wide selection of movies and TV shows including Godzilla, Sicario, The Last Witch Hunter and X-Men Days of Future Past. What’s gonna happen this week I hear you ask. As it turns out. Not alot. Both amazon and Netflix have a poor showing this week after their initial 1st of the month splurge. That doesn’t mean all is lost though. Our pick of the week is an interesting one.

Netflix

The Lobster – Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, Jessica Barden and Olivia Colman star in Yorgos Lanthimos’ bizarre, comedy, drama, romance thing. It’s a great cast and one of an increasingly elusive type of film. It’s pretty high concept and had me interested before i found out who’s in it, also it’s called The Lobster. More films should be called The Lobster.

Lobster
In a dystopian near future, single people, according to the laws of The City, are taken to The Hotel, where they are obliged to find a romantic partner in forty-five days or are transformed into beasts and sent off into The Woods.

Amazon

Transparent -Season 3 –  Jeffrey Tambor leads the cast in this award winning Amazon Original.  It won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, and Jeffrey Tambor won Best Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Jeffery Tambor was great as the Bluth patriarch in Arrested Development so it’s good to see him front and centre in something a little bit different.
transparent-season-2
Mort has a secret that he really wants to tell his three adult children, who are so self-absorbed they don’t see that something has changed for divorced, girlfriendless dad. Even when he invites them to dinner en masse to share his news, somehow, the conversation becomes about them. The secret unfolds, though, when he comes home and sees his married daughter getting intimate with her ex. Now, he knows her secret; she learns his; and the dysfunctional family finds one secret after another being exposed.

Streaming Pick of the Week

Netflix – The Lobster

Get yer bib on and yer claw cracker out it’s Lobster time! This is my pick of the week for obvious crustacean based reasons. The Lobster came through the crowd and hit ol’ Amazon with a chair, leaving Netflix to give the final blow. Netflix wins this round. The scores are even.
