It’s a new month and everything is up for grabs this week sees the release of a new Marvel show to accompany Daredevil and Jessica Jones, tonnes of TV shows, robert Downey Jr. and some Starwars toys

Rick and Morty Season 1 – After having been missing for nearly 20 years, Rick Sanchez suddenly arrives at daughter Beth’s doorstep to move in with her and her family. Although Beth welcomes Rick into her home, her husband, Jerry, isn’t as happy about the family reunion. Jerry is concerned about Rick, a sociopathic scientist, using the garage as his personal laboratory. In the lab, Rick works on a number of sci-fi gadgets, some of which could be considered dangerous. But that’s not all Rick does that concerns Jerry. He also goes on adventures across the universe that often involve his grandchildren, Morty and Summer.

Let’s Be Cops – Best pals Ryan (Jake Johnson) and Justin (Damon Wayans Jr.) are stalled in their respective careers — a fact that is painfully driven home when they go to a college reunion. Dressed as police in the mistaken belief that they were to attend a costume party, Ryan and Justin find that the uniforms earn them much respect and attention. Although Justin is uncomfortable with the idea, Ryan decides to continue with the charade, putting them both in increasingly dangerous situations.

There were too many TV shows this week so here’s a list of what’s new. Some are first timers, some are streaming again and some have new episodes available. Here goes. Black Mirror, Limmy’s Show!, Big Bang Theory, Whitechapel, Bad Education, Fresh Meat, Chewin’ the Fat, Still Game, Freaks and Geeks, House of Fools, and Peep Show. There’s also a new documentary on Amanda Knox.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows – When Austria’s crown prince is found dead, evidence seems to point to suicide. However, detective Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) deduces that the prince was murdered and that the crime is but a piece of a puzzle designed by an evil genius named Moriarty (Jared Harris). Holmes and his friend Dr. Watson (Jude Law), who are accompanied by a Gypsy (Noomi Rapace) whose life Holmes saved, chase Moriarty across Europe in the hope that they can thwart his plot before it can come to fruition.

Orphan – Devastated by the loss of their unborn baby, Kate (Vera Farmiga) and John (Peter Sarsgaard) decide to adopt a child. At the orphanage, both feel drawn to a little girl (Isabelle Fuhrman) named Esther, and soon the couple take their new daughter home. But when a dangerous series of events unfolds, Kate begins to suspect that there is something evil lurking behind the child’s angelic exterior.

Plastic Galaxy – When Star Wars landed in theaters, audiences discovered a galaxy filled with heroes, villains, robots, space ships, and aliens. But when the lights came up, they disappeared. Unless you had the toys! Like none before them, Star Wars toys were a phenomenon that swept the nation, permanently transforming both the toy and movie industries, and creating a hobby that, 30 years later, still holds sway over pop-culture. Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys is a documentary that explores this groundbreaking and breathtaking world. Through interviews with former Kenner employees, experts and authors like Stephen Sansweet and Gus Lopez, and of course collectors, it looks at the toys’ history, their influence, and the fond and fervent feelings they elicit today.

Streaming Pick of the Week

Netflix – Marvel’s Luke Cage

This gritty, action-packed drama follows the evolution of Luke Cage (Mike Colter), a man with super strength and unbreakable skin caused by a sabotaged experiment. After a failed relationship with fellow superhero Jessica Jones, Cage tries to rebuild his life in Harlem, New York, but is pulled out of the shadows and forced to fight for the heart of his city. Along the way, Cage cannot avoid confronting his past, which he has worked hard to bury. “Marvel’s Luke Cage” is the third show in the Netflix-original Defenders series.

Netflix had by far the biggest selection this week, Amazon had a few good movies but the obvious pick this week is Marvel’s Luke Cage. 13 episodes of quality Marvel programing. If it’s anything as good as Daredevil or Jessica Jones it’ll be doing well. A special mention this week goes to Rick and Morty. It’s taken a long time for this one to make it to a streaming service in the UK but it’s well worth the wait. If it wasn’t for Luke Cage it’d be my pick of the week.
