Do you like trailers? This week he have some trailers. Not the trailers we deserve but the trailers we need. We have news on Mallrats 2, X-Men, Marvel, Ant-Man 2 and the latest Coen brother’s film Hail, Ceasar! Clooney is in it but you knew that already, it’s a Coen brother’s film.

Mallrats 2

mallrats-2Kevin Smith has been speaking about Mallrats 2 and lucky for us it’s a Brodie centric story. The story seems to be about Brodie Bruce (Jason Lee) trying to save the Mall by organizing a Comic Con there. That seems like a nice little story in line with the ‘destroy the dating show’ theme from the first movie. Now Brodie has to save something rather than destroy it. I would have thought that Brandi Svenning’s father (played by Michael Rooker, last seen in Guardians of the Galaxy) would be the antagonist (he is in it after all) but Smith has seen fit to follow Paul Blart’s lead and add in some terrorists. If in doubt. Add some terrorists.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

This one has been in production hell for years but now we have a trailer. It’s a nice little trailer. I’m kind of bored of zombies but hopefully Jane Austen can bring something to the mix. It starts Lily James, Sam Riley, Matt Smith, Lena Headey and Charles Dance.

Hail, Caesar!

I love the Coen brothers, they never steer me wrong. I knew nothing about this movie until I watched the trailer. It has quite the cast (Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum the list goes on) and looks rather spiffing. They really captured that old timey Hollywood look. At first I was disappointed that it wasn’t some sort of Roman epic they were trying their hand in but after watching the trailer I’m looking forward to it. No idea what’s going on but I’m looking forward to it.

X-Men: Apocalypse

apocalypseHere’s a little synopsis for that fancy new X-Men film, revealing just where they’re going with the movie version of Apocalypse.

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

Bryan Singer was at the San Pedro International Film Festival and dropped a few bits and bobs about the film. If you’re a fan of the short and to the point style of movie making then you might not be too happy. If on the other hand you want as much Ivan Ooze as you can handle then you’re in luck.

“I think it’s going to be a longer X-Men movie, the X-Men movies, I usually I keep under two hours. This one I may actually let be a longer movie because it’s sort of a wrap-up of six movies. There’s even an homage at the end […] There’s a scene – it’s going to get spoiled because they decided to use it in the trailer – but it’s kind of a wrap up of six movies. So, it might run a little bit long … but it’s not boring”.

Marvel

wasp-costume-picMarvel has made a couple of announcements including some adjustments to their ever expanding movie schedule.

Benicio Del  Toro will indeed be returning in some capacity to Guardians of the Galaxy 2. We also have word that Ant-Man will indeed get a sequel and it’s a sort of Marvel team up. The studio announced that ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ is scheduled to hit theaters in July 2018. This is all part of Phase 3 and people seem to love phases. We went through them as toddlers and our parents were happy in their knowledge that drinking from the toilet was ‘just a phase’ as was putting toast in the dvd tray. Now that we’re older and wiser, we’re ready to get right back into phases again. This time with Marvel by our side. Creating an army of A.I. iron men to protect/destroy the world? Don’t worry, that’s just a phase. Here’s a handy list of what’s to come in Phase 3.

Captain America: Civil War – May 6, 2016,
Doctor Strange – November 4, 2016,
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – May 5, 2017,
Spider-Man (untitled) – July 28, 2017,
Thor: Ragnarok -November 3, 2017,
Black Panther – February 16, 2018,
Avengers: Infinity War Part I – May 4, 2018,
Black Panther – July 6, 2018,
Captain Marvel -March 8, 2019
Avengers: Infinity War Part – May 3, 2019,
Inhumans – July 12, 2019.

Marvel has also added 3 more dates to the list. May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020, and November 6, 2020. These films are as of yet unknown. Quite possibly Phase 4.

Netflix

My pick of whats new on Netflix this week includes the comedy classic ‘Super Troopers’, the rather spiffing stop motion ‘The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!’ We also have the rather interesting looking ‘What we do in the Shadows’ with Flight of the Concord’s Jermaine Clement. It’s a sort of fly on the wall documentary on vampire life in modern times. Check out the trailer below.
