Pow Pow Pow! Did I get your attention? Well never mind then. This week the geek cephalopod has pictures of Star Trek and Alien:Covenant. News on Predator and  and National Treasure and a trailer for Disney/Pixar’s Finding Dory.

Alien: Covenant

Ridley Scott’s new Alien movie has it’s first image for all us underlings to tweet about. It features Katherine Waterstone’s character, Daniels in like a spaceship corridor. Daniels is a surname so let’s hope that’s not her first name, that would be confusing. It would just take me out of the movie. Aliens would be attacking, blood everywhere and I’d be thinking “Daniels is an odd name, maybe in space no one can hear your surname”.

The Predator

the_predatorDen of Geek had a wee chat with Shane Black who’s co-writing and full-directing the new predator film. Here’s some quotes about the film and stuff.

“I think the tone shifting is important,” Black told us. “This one is going to be very scary if I get it right, and hopefully also there’ll be some humour in it. The first one  had humour in it, so you really got engaged with this group of guys […] We’ll cast very carefully. We’ll get a group of people against the monster that I think you’re gonna enjoy spending time with.”

I was pretty good at setting that quote up wasn’t I? Well here’s another thing Shane said about the film:

“The sensibility will be part noir, part mystery and part Close Encounters. The feeling I loved about Close Encounters was, you had this ordinary guy, Roy Neary, to whom this is all new. I think the danger of a Predator sequel is that it’s not new to anybody anymore. ‘Oh, look honey – another Predator. Yeah, we had one of those last year. Gagh, is he in the barn again? Oh God, he’s had the sheep.’ You know? That’s the danger. That it’s too familiar – we have to find a way to make him mysterious again.”

I put the quotes in italics so that you’d know that they were quotes. I’ve got this writing thing down.

Star Trek Beyond

Here’s some nice new posters for that Star Trek film that’s coming out. Set Phasers for a cracking good time is what I say! I’m sure we’ll all leave the theater beam( me up Scotty)ing. Some of the gang look like they are being attacked by space locusts. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a good movie about space locusts. I hope this is a good one.

 Kung Fury

Do you remember this one? It had dinosaur cops and robot Hitlers in it and was made on a $600,000 budget raised on kickstarter. Swedish film maker David Sandberg (who goes by @LaserUnicorns on twitter) tweeted proof that a sequel is underway. Godspeed LaserUnicorns Godspeed. The first film is 30 minutes of 80’s madness and can be seen here . It’s also available on Netflix.Kung Fury

Finding Dory

Here’s a new trailer for everyone’s favorite fish based sequel. We haven’t seen it yet but there’s not many fish based sequels out there and I don’t think Jaws counts. If it did then this would be our second fish based sequel.

National Treasure 3

National-Treasure-3-release-date-1Jerry Bruckheimer has on occasion mentioned that we’d be getting a follow up to 2007’s National Treasure: Book of Secrets. You remember those films don’t you? A sort of wacky Indiana Jones type thing led by Nicholas Cage that uses American history as it’s currency. Well Cage was asked about it by EW recently and this is what he had to say:

“I haven’t really heard anything about that.

Great stuff EW, that’s the scoop of the century. Nic Cage hears nothing. Why don’t you just move over and let the big boys (i.e. Octogeek) do this kind of stuff. But wait! There’s more! Go ahead EW! Redeem thyself!

I do know that those scripts are very difficult to write, because there has to be some credibility in terms of the facts and fact-checking, because it was relying on historical events. […] And then you have to make it entertaining I know that it’s been a challenge to get the script where it needs to be. That’s as much as I’ve heard. But they’re still working on it”.

So there you go, the chance for Cage to star in another proper film that isn’t straight to DVD is still out there. They have “top men working on it right now. Top men”. I know that’s a Raiders of the Lost Ark quote but lets be honest, can you remember any National Treasure ones?

Nicolas Cage can currently be seen on the internet, photoshoped onto every face of every meme.
