This week we have skin head Harry Potter doing some Romperus Stomperus type things. Toby Jones is in the trailer for a new BBC drama. There is some new information on Mallrats and a wee trailer for a rather interesting looking Netflix series. Read on for further delights.

Imperium

We have a trailer for another Daniel Radcliff movie. This one sounds like some sort of Harry Potter documentary but it’s actually about white supremacists. I’d stay away from naming your Danny Radcliff movie after something that sounds like a Hogwarts spell when it’s got Nazis in it. That’s just me though.

Legion

legion-dan-stevens_1Some news on the new mutant based TV show from Fox/Marvel. Moviefone had a chat with head honcho Simon Kinberg and he had a few things ti say about the show and Director Noah Hawley. Hawley is the one behind the Fargo TV show so this might be one to watch.

“Noah [Hawley] is a genius. [He] wrote and created and directed the pilot to Legion — and it is a very different sensibility than anything we’ve done with the X-Men movies. Almost, I would say, as radically different as Deadpool was from the mainline X-Men movies.”

“Legion is, again, in a different direction: really character-based, really granular in terms of getting inside the details of the characters,” he added. “It stands as part of the X-Men universe, but it stands apart from it as well.”

The Secret Agent

Toby Jones is back on the TV in this adaptation of Joseph Conrad’s The Secret Agent. Its got yer dude and yer girl from This is England in it too. I can’t be bothered to look up their names but you know who I mean. The BBC usually do well with these kind of things so I’ll be sticking it on my watch list.

Okay, their names are Stephen Graham and Vicky McClure. You happy now? Do I have to Google everything for you?

Mallrats

Now that Mallrats 2 has been turned into a TV show instead of another movie, we have some information from the big man himself. Kevin Smith has been talking with Den of Geek about the difference it’ll make to his new Mallrats. Warning: Kevin Smith says ‘fucking’ 3 times and ‘fuck’ 1 time. If you don’t like that kind of thing then look away now.

Mallrats Hot Tub Time machine“[It] gives me more time to tell that goofy story. You know, I would have had ninety minutes to tell that story, now you get like maybe ten half-hour episodes. It’s like five hours to tell the fucking same story, so I get to really flesh out the characters and make a fuck tonne of jokes and stuff. Um, and kind of bring them in gradually over the course of the show. So I look forward to it. A different kind of storytelling. It feels like working on a Mallrats comic book, an on-going series. I never would have imagined that this fucking movie that nobody saw when it came out, nobody liked, could sustain a life this long and wind up as a series.”

I’d like to take a moment and just say how awesome this photo is of the original cast in a hot tub. Carry on Kevin….

“I’ve been going back and re-watching the entire John Hughes canon veraciously, because before you head out and try and create your thing, it’s always great to vibe like a fucking really sumptuous creative meal of somebody else’s self-expression, that like rocks your world in a big bad way. And those are the building blocks of what I became today. So I feel like the Mallrats series is going to be insanely John Hughes-like, just a little dirtier, because I’m not as sophisticated as John Hughes was. But that’s what fed Mallrats the movie, and that’s what’s gonna feed the series as well.

He also mentioned that his daughter Harley will be playing Brodie’s (Jason Lee’s) daughter Banner. Banner Bruce. You wouldn’t angry her when she’s like.

Stranger Things

Netflix have a new Original show for us and it’s a doozey. It’s a TV show retelling of E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. The twist is that E.T. is now a little girl. That’s gonna hurt toy and lunchbox sales I expect. Nah it’s nothing to do with E.T. but check out that trailer, it’s got Winona Ryder and a bunch of kids in it.

Everything Else

This is a chance to let you know about a few bits and pieces before I go. Netflix has picked up Lost in Space for 10 episodes. They better keep that robot. Kingsman 2 has added Vinnie ‘Juggernaut’ Jones to the cast. Lastly, Pacific Rim 2 has been confirmed and is set for a 2018 release.
