Is it Wednesday already? We’re back again with news on Cloverfield, Wonder Woman, a Suicide Squad trailer, some stuff on Civil War and more! Read on and be enlightened my son.

Cloverfield

Turns out JJ Abrams is the best at secrets. Not only did he manage to get The Force Awakens out with a minimum of plot details and no spoilers but he’s also got a Cloverfield ‘sort of’ sequel under his hat. The trailer dropped this week from out of nowhere and it seems that almost no one knew the film existed. 10 Cloverfield Lane comes from Abrams’ production company Bad Robot and stars John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead with what looks like no shaky cameras or lens flare! According to Arbrams,

“the idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible”.

Captain America Civil War

captain-america-civil-war-posterJoe and Anthony Russo have been talking up the latest Captain America (out in April) and how its perhaps different from the rest of the Marvel pack.

“We think of Civil War as a psychological thriller. It’s a complicated movie. And yes, it divides these people that you’ve known to not only be a team, but Cap and Natasha, in this movie, they’re evolving into a surrogate family for each other. So, it’s a closer group of people that’s being divided. That’s a difficult thing to do”.

Worried that it might all get to serious? well acording to the Russos it’s “actually funnier than Winter Soldier, because there are characters in that film, that come from worlds where the tone is more comedic. Not all the characters in that movie have the same history as the Avengers. They’re coming at the problem of the film, not embedded with that baggage. They’re not tied to the central arc of the movie with the same motivation as the other characters, so they can be lighter. I think there are a lot lighter moments because there are much darker moments as well. We did have to work very hard at that”.

Netflix – Jessica Jones/ Daredevil/ Punisher

daredevil.140512Jessica Jones is returning for another series hurrah! Daredevil was renewed for season 2 almost immediately  but Jessica has been with us a while with no word as to whether it would be renewed. Some of us were starting to worry… but she’s persistent and it’s been announced she’ll be back for 13 more episodes (same as season one) and show runner Melissa Rosenberg is back again too.

As previously reported, Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead ) will feature heavily as The Punisher in season two of Daredevil (coming March this year). Netflix and Marvel seem so confident of this new take on the character that they’re working on a Punisher spin off. Originally way back when Netflix was announcing their Marvel line up there was Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and then the team up Defenders. So it’s interesting that they’re adding Punisher to their line up. No confirmation as to whether the spin off will have 13 episodes like the others or it it’ll be a shorter run but it’s not too much to think that The Punisher could run for 13 like the others.

Mystical source of almost all things movie and TV related, Entertainment Weekly got a chance to talk to Jon about his part in Daredevil.

The-Punisher-Daredevil-Jon-Bernthal“Obviously secrecy is key to Marvel. I can tell you that this guy, horrible tragic things happen, and we will see how he goes through that. The effect the other characters have on him will push him certain directions. I think once you see these characters collide, it’s tremendously interesting and emotionally gripping as well. It’s going to be a special season. If you thought last season of Daredevil was dark, we’re going to a whole new place.”

“He’s a guy who brought the war home with him [in] the worst possible way. There are a lot of iterations of this character and in all of them it’s a man who’s gone through this unbelievable trauma and what’s interesting about our take on him is how this trauma reshapes his own philosophy. I can’t give too much away, but what’s interesting is the way [showrunners Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez] have made his story a slow burn. It’s interesting to find this guy at the point we find him. You want an evolution and a process. He starts in one place and will end up in another.”

Suicide Squad

New posters have arrived for #Suicide Squad as it looks to be called now and they look rather nice. Instead of going  the obvious route and slapping some images of the squad poised for action on there, the marketing department have gone for a more subtle approach. A character poster for each of the squad depicting what they would look like as a skull. With some nice bright colours too.

As if these posters weren’t enough for you we also have the first proper trailer for the film and thankfully it doesn’t look too spoilery. it also looks like a lot of fun. Suicide Squad is out in the UK in August.

Wonder Woman

CW is giving us our fist taste of Wonder Woman. Currently shooting in the UK and about to shoot in Italy, we’re not nearly ready for a trailer but we see quite a bit of footage in this little segment all things considered. It all sounds like promising stuff.

Bad Neighbours 2

If you liked Bad Neighbours then perhaps you were looking for a sequel. If so then I’ll leave you this week with the trailer for that sequel. It looks pretty good too. Until next time. Chao.
