This week we have Angry Birds, Prometheus, Fast and Furious 8, Zootropolis, Jessica Jones and more! Dive on in!

Angry Birds

Sony have released a trailer for their Angry Birds movie which as you’d expect as a pretty decent cast. Jason Sudeikis, Peter Dinklage, Bill Hader, Josh Gad Maya Rudolph and Danny McBride are all involved. Only problem is, I’ve watched it and well…. It’s a bit un interesting. What do you think of when I say angry birds? I think of forts and castles filled with little green pigs and colorful birds being catapulted into them and so very satisfyingly knocking them to smithereens. Imagine that as a fully realized film with camera angles and sound effects and birds zooming everywhere! Like the start of Saving Private Ryan but with colorful birds and not nearly as much blood (ok fine no blood). Exciting isn’t it? That’s the genius of an angry birds film! Now watch the trailer and let me know if you think they kind of missed the point. Also let me know if you can tell what it’s actually about.

Zootropolis

Disney/Pixars next film after The Good Dinosaur is a film about anthropomorphic animals. The trailer feels like the start of an episode of Arrested Development but with animals. That should be their next film instead. Arrested Development with animals. I’m undecided at the minute whether this looks good or bad but it’s Pixar so it’s probably gonna be decent enough. They do use the phrase ‘like nothing you’ve seen be-fur’ in the trailer though and I don’t think it was ironically.

Prometheus 2

movieengineerRidley Scott is back for Prometheus 2 and it’s now looking likely to be called Alien: Paradise Lost. He’s bringing Michael Fassbender with him along with some big plans. When we first head about the first Prometheus it was going to be a straight up prequel to Alien but as it progressed it was clear that Scott has a bigger story to tell than just how that space ship in Alien crash landed. Now he’s hinted that rather than meeting the events of Alien with Prometheus 2 there may well be a 3 or 4.

“It won’t be in the next one, It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the Alien franchise. […] I always thought of the Alien as kind of a piece of bacterial warfare. I always thought that that original ship, which I call the Croissant, was a battleship, holding these biomechanoid creatures that were all about destruction.”

Lets not forget that somewhere among all these Prometheus films Fox is making an Aliens sequel with Neil Blomkamp and Sigourney Weaver involved. So if you like Alien there’s a lot to keep your interest in the next few years.

The Fast and The Furious

fastfuriouscars7Vin Diesel has been giving some updates via twitter on the state of The Fast and The Furious 8 which will be the first of 3 films to end the series at number 10.

“The fans of the Fast & Furious SAGA are the best fans in the world … Since I became the producer in 2008, you have been with me every step of the way … literally giving me feedback that proved invaluable. Thank you. My producing partner Neal would love for me to just sign off on a director, but this is too special a franchise, so these matters have to be very carefully handled. To be clear, NO ONE has been offered to helm Fast 8 yet … let alone seen a script. Universal has been so good to me and so trusting of the vision … they have been like family … I promised the studio I would deliver one last Trilogy to end the saga.”
