The Octogeek (Geektopus?) has 8 arms for gathering geek news. One for each day of the week and one left over for you know, octopus stuff.

Marvel  – Asa Butterfield, last seen in Ender’s Game, Hugo and The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas has been tipped to play the new Spider-Man.

Spider-Man, Spider-Man does whatever a spider can.
Spider-Man, Spider-Man does whatever a rumour can.

Its not official yet but apparently Latino Review has the confirmation. It seems like the internet is taking it as red (and Blue?) that Asa is the new Spidey. The word is that he’ll debut in the new Captain America film (Captain America: Civil War) along with whoever they get to play Black Panther. Martin Freeman’s been added to the mix as a non superhero supporting character type. The film features Robert Downey Jr. reprising his Iron Man role too so expect a pretty packed film. Hopefully there’s room for a story in there too as Civil War has a good one. We also have a sneak peek of Frank Grillo’s Crossbones from the film!

I'm not cross, I'm just disappointed.

In Fox’s Marvel sand pit they have just announced an X-Men spin off movie based on the New Mutants, called funnily enough The New Mutants. It’s being helmed by The Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone so I have no point of reference as to whether that’s a good choice or not. Elsewhere, Michael Fassbender has said that he would ‘shoot a hundred X-Men films’. So for everyone who has been enjoying his Magneto impressions it seems that he’s still on board when his contract with Fox expires with X-Men: Apocalypse.

Star Wars
Spin off films confirmed from the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens are Rogue One, a film about the capturing of the death star plans and a Boba Fett origin film (this could go very wrong). Gareth Edwards has some of the cast already for Rogue One. Edwards already has Riz Ahmed, Sam Claflin, Felicity Jones Diego Luna and Ben Mendelssohn. Beyond that I haven’t heard any more on the new films. I did do a star wars comic on Monday so you can check that out if you like.
