After rumours upon rumours have been circulating the Internet for months, Marvel and Sony have finally announced that 19 year old Tom Holland is to take on the role of Peter Parker in the latest imaging of the Spider-Man franchise.

Tom Holland

Holland is relatively new to the scene, with his most well known achievements to date being starring in 2012’s The Impossible with Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor and playing the title role in Billy Elliot the Musical.

Producer, Amy Pascal commented:

“Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world.  With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Taking the reigns (so to speak) from previous Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, Holland is expected to make a cameo in next year’s Captain America sequel Civil War, before getting his own film directed by Jon Watts in 2017.
