Two films for you this week and one of those true crime thingies too. Netflix is of course giving us a Christmas treat but first up we have something of a different nature. Something with a little drama.

Sleuth is great little film starring Michael Caine facing off against Jude Law. The original starred Caine in what is now Jude Law’s role (Laurence Olivier played Caine’s). It’s directed by Kenneth Branagh and makes for an entertaining little mystery/thriller.

‘On his sprawling country estate, an aging writer matches wits with the struggling actor who has stolen his wife’s heart.’

If you like true crime stories like HBO’s The Jinx or the Serial podcast then maybe you’ll be sitting in this Christmas watching Netflix’s Making a Murder. It looks pretty compelling that’s all i’ll say. Sometimes it’s best going into these things not knowing what you’re going to get. If you need to see a little something first though… here’s the trailer.

The pick of the week had to be something festive though and at this time of year Netflix is offering us Arthur Christmas. The first computer animated film from stop motion giant Aardman, they seemed to do rather well. With a star studded cast including James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Bill Nighy and Jim Broadbent it’s been well received by critics and the public alike.

Arthur Christmas 5 - small

Everyone knows that, each Christmas, Santa Claus delivers presents to every last child on Earth. What everyone doesn’t know is that Santa accomplishes the feat with a very high-tech operation beneath the North Pole. But when the unthinkable happens, and Santa misses one child out of hundreds of millions, someone has to save the day. It’s up to Arthur (James McAvoy), Santa’s youngest son, to deliver a present to the forgotten tyke before Christmas morning dawns.’
