If there’s one thing to be said about Belfast singer songwriter Gowain McKenna AKA Egg In The Sink, it’s that he’s prolific. The last six months have seen three EPs, from the initial The Moon Unit, to the progression heard in An Interesting Effort, and now his final release of 2015, Out To Lunch.

Out To Lunch very much sounds like a continuation of An Interesting Effort, which means that McKenna has found his signature sound. A unique mix of synth and his Brit Pop-esque vocals – this is another nice effort.

The first track, A Bear Sits in the Woods is a synth laden trek which has a bit of a toned down War of the Worlds sound about itA sombre introduction which doesn’t exactly compel the listener to keep going, I’m not a fan of this style of song, but some might enjoy it.

The Going Rate sounds a bit more like it, those quirky lyrics are back in this nostalgic track, as is the synth that we’re so used to hearing from Egg In The Sink; while the final track, Orca Song is something completely different. A concept song about orca whales, this one starts out gently with low whale calls in the background, before soon giving way to a tender track about freedom.

This is the last we’ll be hearing from Egg In The Sink for a while, as he is focusing on his studies, but a gallant effort all the same. Personally, I found An Interesting Effort to be the most appealing of all three pieces of work, but this is definitely another solid release.
