Based in Belfast and Lisburn, The Titanics are a four piece dedicated to playing good old rock and roll. Well, technically they describe their sound as ‘A potent mix of alternative, indie and punk rock’ but for the most part, they sound pretty damn rocky to us.

After coming together in 2013, The Titanics are set to release their debut, self-titled EP The Titanics on the 24th April at Alexander’s Bar in Lisburn alongside The Couth, Smoking Tongue and Midnight Transmission.

Frontman James Graham’s grizzly voice characterises this band’s sound. It’s rugged, rough and full of attitude. Shown to its full potential in tracks such as the punchy You’ve Got It, where the fast paced drums and guitar highlight the sheer power of his vocals, while also holding their own.

Showing that almost sleazy (in a good way) rock and roll attitude, She Wants It is insanely catchy with its almost discordant guitar and fast paced vocals that create an interesting frenzied, spiralling effect throughout the song. With tinkling cymbals and guitar reminiscent of ACDC’s TNT, Holy Smokes is another catchy one. This is definitely one of my favourite tracks on the EP and one that gets better with every listen.

The thumping drums and screeching guitar of Cannonball bring back the attitude that we’ve come to expect from these guys, there are some nice harmonies and even a little guitar breakdown towards the end which is a great addition. This is definitely a song which is screaming out to be played live.

Compared to the rest of the tracks on this EP, Call It Out is completely different. It still retains that nice solid rock sound, but this track has less edge, less rawness to it, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. This is one of my favourite tracks, but Graham’s voice sounds completely different here, younger, softer and more of that indie sound can be heard coming through.

Overall, this is a band that I can genuinely see myself going to see at a show, or listening to their music with a cold beer in hand. The Titanics have edge, talent and a rugged charm that’s hard to find. This is a very accomplished EP which showcases the band’s raw talent and attitude, but it is also clear to see that there’s another, softer side to their music that could come through and I’m excited to hear The Titanics explore their sound in the future.

The Titanics is being released on 24th April in Lisburn. For more information follow the band on SoundCloud, Facebook and Twitter.
