Via:Barvikha is the solo project of Ex/Former/Current PigsAsPeople member Chris Leckey who has went it alone.  I have to say these tunes would fit nicely in a mixtape next to Ex/Former/Current PigsAsPeople member Wilson Davidson;s new EP ‘Sad Songs’ with his band January that we reviewed last week.

The tracks are released on the 30th Nov over at Bandcamp and we’ve made it our track of for the week because it seems like every time I listen to it I get something different from it. It’s dark but there are chinks of light, it’s slow but it’s aggressive, it goes quiet and then gets loud, it’s heavy but soft.  Anyway it’s different and nice and I like it.  Have a listen, or ten, and see what you think.

Via: Barvikha is the musical output of PigsAsPeople bassist and frontman Chris Leckey. Displaying a more somber and softer side of his musical style, Via: Barvikha harkens to the sounds of Will Oldham, Jason Molina, Elliot Smith and John Darnielle. Dealing with issues such as grief, loss, identity and loss of youth, Via: Barvikha uses minimal recording techniques and instrumentation in order to display a sense of cold atmosphere in his sound.

Pearl/Lucid Ferries is the first single of a planned 2 single release. It will be released on Bandcamp for free download/pay what you want on. It was recorded by Chris Ryan on a shoestring budget recorded over the course of 2 months. Leckey wrote and recorded all instruments except for guest musicians Emma Gallaher of Making Monsters providing vocals and Chris Ryan of Robocobra Quartet providing drums for the tracks.
