Last week when we featured Amanda St John’s “Big Strong Man”, as our #NIMusic Tune for the weekend, I mentioned the fact that she had been referred to as “NI’s answer to Imelda May” and whilst this is a great intro it doesn’t fully capture the whole picture – at least not for this single.  The single starts off with a trumpet solo and is immediately followed up with drums, guitar and double bass, Miss St. Johns voice slinks in to complete the picture and make for a full robust sound.  The single combines elements of blues, rockabilly and a touch of soul, as I imagine anything that Amanda sings on would have. Once in full flow we’re treated to a foot stomping, hand clapping, sing-a-long chorus, as the track finishes just under 3 minutes you’re left wanting more and leaves you anticipating an upcoming album.  The video for this song was filmed in the Cabaret Supper Club,  the 1920’s speakeasy aesthetic combined with New Orleans Jazz and Blues sound compliment each other perfectly.  Recently the Jazz and Blues scene in Belfast has been thriving and artists like Amanda St. John are why this scene will just continue to grow.

The single is currently available on iTunes.
