So, we’re currently in the midst of the London Fashion Week hype and Belfast Fashion Week has just passed. Our Instagrams are literally bursting with outfit inspiration for Spring, the season where we are undoubtedly at our most clueless dress-wise.

And who can blame us? It’s that time of year where the sun is shining but its too cold to bare your legs (or even your ankles at this rate); where one minute its clear, the next you’re reexperiencing your morning shower (minus 20 degrees); where you may as well see the world in black and white because of the bleak, unwanted greyness that just lovesto overstay its welcome – and where you justCANNOTplan a decent outfit around this mishmash weather to save your life.

So, if you’re tired of your too-familiar black leggings, parka coat and old trainer combo during this confusing transitional period, look no further. Here’s a round-up of the latest trends you’ll want to experiment with to make these months a bit more exciting.

Keen for green

Heavily featured at Belfast Fashion Week and many of Victoria Square’s window displays, green has replaced Winter’s ‘it’ colour red and it is so refreshing – just what we’re looking for this Spring! The great part about this trend is that it can be any item of clothing – as long as it features this beautiful emerald or jade green shade, it is very much in fashion.

Lilac loving

It’s not Spring unless some kind of pastel colour is featured, so this year this pretty lilac shade is replacing the typical blush pink we saw so frequently in SS17. Luckily, lilac is the kind of shade that suits any skin tone and hair colour, and instantly injects a touch of femininity into an outfit but can also look edgy when teamed with a fiery red, dark denim or monochrome ensemble.

Dark denim dreaming

Unlike what you may expect, dark denim is have a real moment right now. Usually you would be thinking about digging out your summery pale denims from the bottom of your drawer but instead warmer indigo shades are the perfect on-trend replacement for boring black or bleached blue. To give an added interest to your look, ditch the skinny jean and go for a kick-flare or cropped wide-leg style.

Polka dots

It’s been a while…but they’re back and they’re taking the catwalks by storm. Whether its colour-blocking with monochrome polka dots or mixing big polka dots with smaller, ditsy ones, its a trend for those who enjoy a bit of playful experimentation. Top tip: team polka dots with jade green to go bold or with pastel pink to go for a flirtier vibe – it’s a more versatile pattern than you think!

Rainbow stripes

Bring a bit of happiness to your wardrobe by wearing some fun-loving rainbow stripes. If you’re looking for an instant mood-lifter (especially in these miserable months), chucking on a rainbow tee with some dark denim jeans is guaranteed to lift your spirits (and other’s too) while earning you some serious style points at the same time. Look to brands like Gola or Urban Outfitters for the best picks.

Athleisure aesthetic

The best way to master ‘comfy casual chic’. Think side-striped jogger-style trousers paired with blazers and court heels to smarten up, or with trainers and a simple tee to dress down. A lot of the ‘athleisure’ clothing available on the high street feature a signature stripe, so try clashing and matching your accessories to the colour featured or even a red lip to vamp up your look. To achieve ultimate sass: a slick-back ponytail and hoop earrings are a must.
