Welcome to our new and improved streaming pick of the week. Amazon Prime Instant Video has come so far that it would be rude to ignore it. Amazon is now a contender for the title of steaming champion. It’s The Anteater VS The Newt! Lets begin then with this week’s honourable mentions from both competitors.

Netflix

Transformers: Age of Extinction – Yay! Another transformers film! Transformers films are most at home on streaming services. While there are apparently thousands of people that go to see them in the cinema, after the second one I don’t think I could bring myself to pay to see one. I might still be tempted to check it out though. Especially if I don’t have to pay Michael Bay specifically or get off my couch.

Orange Is the New Black: Season 4 – If you liked season 3 perhaps you’ll be interested in season 4. OITNB has been one of the better Netflix Originals and lets face it they have a pretty decent hit to miss ratio.

Amazon Prime Video

Tower Heist – Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy lead a gang of um… Tower Heisters to steal back a fortune in stolen pension money from a guy that lives in a tower block. I could have googled it but I didn’t. I watched this on DVD when it first came out and from what I remember It was pretty good for a Ben Stiller Eddie Murphy move. That’s all I got.

A Walk in the Woods – Travel writer Bill Bryson has written some excellent books in his time. Here he’s taking an old friend for a hike along the Appalachian Trail, which stretches more than 2,000 miles from Georgia to Maine. Robert Redford and Nick Nolte star in this laid back little film which didn’t exactly get the reviews it was looking for. Still Bill must be pretty stoked that Redford played him in a film.

Both Netflix and Amazon have put up a good fight but there can only be one winner. One pick of the week and for this first bout, it was a no brainer.

Pick of the Week – Netflix – Guardians of the Galaxy

This film has everything. Chris Pratt, a talking racoon, an almost talking tree, Benicio del Toro in drag and a kick ass soundtrack. Marvel barely put a foot wrong and they seem to have made Netflix their home. If you haven’t got round to watching this one yet, I can’t recommend it enough. If you’ve already seen it. You might want to watch it again anyway.
