This week we have trailers for BFG and Assassin’s Creed. We have news on the not so Fantastic Four, a new Star Wars game, Jumanji and some interesting news on Tetris. I can’t wait can you? Ok then, lets get to it!

Fantastic Four

Josh Tranks’s pop at FF4 didn’t go down too well which is why it’s a bit of a surprise that co-writer Simon Kinberg is so upbeat about making a sequel. Den of Geek spoke to him at an X-Men press junket and he was pretty up front about the first movies failings

fantastic-four-banner“We didn’t make a good movie and the world voted, and I think they probably voted correctly. And you can’t make a good movie every time out – not everybody does. We actually have a pretty good batting average, all things considered. But I think we made many mistakes when we made that movie – mistakes that we learned from and we wouldn’t repeat.”

“We want to make another Fantastic Four movie. We love that cast – I mean if I were to say to you now Michael B Jordan and Miles Teller, and Kate [Mara] and Jamie [Bell] are great actors – we love that cast. I love the comic, I mean I love it almost as much as X-Men.”

“We’ll try to be truer to the essence of the tone of Fantastic Four, which is completely – well, not completely, but largely – distinct from the X-Men, which is brighter, funner, more optimistic tone. I think we tried to make a darker Fantastic Four movie, which seemed like a radical idea but we were kind of messing with the DNA of the actual comic instead of trusting the DNA of the comic. […] Nothing would make me happier than the world embracing a Fantastic Four movie.”

The BFG

We have another trailer for Steven Spielberg’s movie about a big ol’ giant that pipes dreams into yer noggin. It’s right here. Below this text. Off you go. Clickety click.

Assassins Creed

The new trailer has dropped for the Assassin’s Creed movie and it has an interesting choice of music. The movie stars Michael Fassbender and takes place in 15th Century Spain, a location not previously explored by the game from Activision. Here’s the trailer and synopsis.

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

Star Wars Battlefront 2

star wars-battlefrontIt seems like only yesterday that SW:B was released to much praise for the visuals and scorn for the lack of content. EA has now announced that they’re taking another shot at it and this time there’ll be content from the new movies. EA CFO Blake Jorgensen also said that the sequel will feature “bigger and better worlds”. That’s sort of an admission that the worlds in the first one weren’t very big, or good. The new one will be out in 2017 and EA plan on releasing a new Star Wars game every year for the next few years anyway.

Disney Infinity

Disney-Infinity-3-0-141782Remember that toys to life property that Disney had going? The one to rival Skylanders? The one driving parents mad because their kids have to collect all the toys from Marvel, Disney, Pixar and Star Wars to get the most out of the game? Well depending on your point of view we have some good/bad news. Disney Infinity is no more. Avalanche Studios who make the game is to close and Disney are leaving all their future console games in the hands of third party developers like EA. This will come as a bit of a shock to fans as Disney had only just branched out into the world of Star Wars last year and released the Marvel Battlegrounds expansion (to tie in with Civil War) this March. Alas this was not enough to stem diminishing sales. It seems they can make more money with licencing Star Wars etc. to other developers. There are 2 more play sets to come from Disney Infinity (Alice through the Looking Glass and Finding Dory) as work is pretty much finished on them. After that though there will be no further games, updates or figures for the expansive world builder that was Disney Infinity.

Jumanji

Jumanji_BoardWe turn our attention to Jumanji now as casting is underway for a reboot starring Dwayne Johnson. The film is being directed by Jake Kasdan (Sex Tape) and will have five leads. We know The Rock is one of them but it’s been revealed that Jack Black and Kevin Hart are joining him. Johnson has hinted that there are “two big roles left. One bad ass girl [and] one semi-sorta bad ass dude”. Jumanji is due out July 2017.

Carry-On

The Carry On movies are to be given new life after 25 years. Is it just me or is this news coming at the same time as Babs leaving EastEnders? Sure she’s a bit older now and is tied up with those bingo ads but I’d still go see a movie about her doing aerobics in a caravan park. Maybe now a days it would be a spin class or Zumba but as long as her top came off to much hilarity and uproar from the censors then I’m on board.

Reports say that we can look forward to Carry On Doctors and Carry On Campus. The first will be released in 2017. Unfortunately reports also say that Barbra Winsor and Jim Dale wont be appearing. The movie will be written by they fellas behind ‘Two Pints of Larger and a Packet of Crisps’. I can’t remember if that was good or not but it seems like the right sort move.

Tetris

TetrisThat’s right Tetris! Finally we can look forward to a brand new game featuring those falling angular shapes! Of course not… that would be ridiculous. No one wants to play Tetris anymore. Not in an age of Call of Duty, Halo, Assassin’s Creed and Doom. What we do want however is an $80 million dollar movie based on the property that will be the first part of a trilogy. Maybe some sort of production that would include both the US and the Chinese. What’s that I hear you say? It’s happening and they start filming next year? Well colour me pink! I recon this movie could knock your blocks off.
