Ahoy there! Here we are. It’s the run up to Christmas. I can say that now that Halloween is over. This week we have some news regarding Bad Santa 2, Warcraft Pictures, Star Trek, Suicide Squad trash talk, nautical puns, a Preacher trailer and more.

Preacher

I’ve been quite fond of Dominic Cooper since I first saw him in ‘The Devil’s Double’ and he turned up in Captain America as Tony Stark’s da. Well he has his own show now based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult comic book. The comic (and the show) follows a small-town preacher who ‘driven by a strong sense of right and wrong, goes on a journey across America attempting to literally find God, who has abandoned Heaven’. This isn’t another Marvel adaptation so don’t be expecting to watch it with the kids. The show is being produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin for AMC. Here’s a nifty little trailer.

In the Heart of the Sea*

monstroRon Howard (with or without hat) likes a good ‘True Story’. Whether it’s Apollo 13, Frost/Nixon, A Beautiful Mind or The Grinch. My guess is that he just likes to cast his net wide in the search for Oscars. ‘The Academy’ eats true stories of ‘human courage and the fight against adversity’ up like a bear scoffing salmon. His latest Oscar bait is ‘In the Heart of the Sea’ and adversity is being played by the big whale from Pinocchio. Chris Hemsworth leads a crew of scurvy sea dogs that include Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw, Brendan Gleeson, Tom Holland and Benjamin Walker. Based on Nathaniel Philbrick’s book, In The Heart Of The Sea: The Tragedy Of The Whaleship Essex which went on to inspire Moby Dick. The trailer looks suitably epic from where I’m sitting i.e. the crows nest. Hopefully this one can go full steam ahead for director Ron Howard, avoiding the treacherous waters of bad box office numbers and the jagged rocks of film critic’s scathing reviews to capture some Oscar gold (and our hearts). Indian Ocean, Great White Shark, rubber dingy. The movie sets sail for the UK on Boxing Day and you can find the trawler below.

Bad Santa 2

Billy-Bob-Thornton-in-Bad-SantaThis one has been a long time coming but it’s finally giving up the goods. It’s been confirmed that Bad Santa 2 will start filming in January for a December 2016 release. Billy Bob is back in the big red suit but beyond that we don’t have anything else to share with you. Power Rangers

Movie_RangersQuick update here Becky Gomez (sister of Selena) has been cast as the Lemony ranger and the characters will be using the classic names from the TV show i.e. Jason, Kimbely, ZacK, Billy, Trini. Hopefully we get some more details on the plot schooner rather than later. The cast line up looks like this.

  • Jason (Dacre Montgomery) – The Red Ranger/Tyrannosaurus
  • Kimberly (Naomi Scott) – The Pink Ranger/Pterodactyl
  • Billy (RJ Cyler) – The Blue Ranger/Triceratops
  • Zack (Ludi Lin) – The Black Ranger/Mastodon
  • Trini (Becky Gomez) – The Yellow Ranger/Sabre-Tooth Tiger
Warcraft

Warcraft-Durotan-close-upWe haven’t had much on Duncan Jones’ Warcraft adaptation but Empire Magazine has 3 new pictures which comes via ‘Buzzhub’ for some reason. The pictures show Anduin Lothar (Travis Fimmel), Durotan (Toby Kebbel) and Orgrim Doomhammer (Robert Kazinsky) and certainly look the part. Check out the pictures below along with a few other pictures I was able to find from SDCC this year. I know nothing about World of Warcraft that I didn’t learn from South Park and those adds that Mr. T did but this looks like another rousing fantasy epic in the same vein of Lord of the Rings and Duncan Jones did a grand job of ‘Moon’ so hopefully we should be in for something special here.
