This week we have the Deadpool trailer, a Zoolander teaser, stuff on X-Men, Batman, Bourne as well as your Netflix picks and your free games fro the month. First things first though. Let’s clear up last week’s Gambit rumors.

Gambit

Remember last week when we said that Channing Tatum may not play Gambit after all due to some snag in the negotiations?

gambit‘Channing  wanted to use his own deck of cards (did i mention that Gambit throws playing cards as a weapon?) as per his contract but it turns out that his deck consisted only of business cards for C-Tates Strip-o-Gym  – Paul Caldwell, Octogeek

Remember how we also said it would blow over? The Hollywood Reporter updates us on the details

Sources say that Tatum and the studio did hit a sensitive spot in negotiations, but such back-and-forth is a normal part of top-level talent dealmaking. The Magic Mike star’s participation hardly was in any real danger because the actor already had invested quite a bit in the superhero part.

One thing that needed figuring out was the extent of Tatum’s involvement in the X-Men universe. Fox sees Tatum’s Gambit, a mutant who harnesses kinetic energy, as one of the anchor characters of the X-universe, akin to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, someone who would anchor his own movies and appear in numerous others. – The Hollywood Reporter

Off the record, The Hollywood Reporter also maintained that Channing wasn’t a real name and that C-Tate’s Strip-o-Gym was just what Tatum calls his bedroom.

Deadpool

All the folk at Comic-Con got to see the trailer a few weeks back but now it’s time for us normals to see it without watching an ILLEGAL pirated videophone copy. Shame on anyone who did. Shame and also tut tut tut. The irony being that Deadpool would probably watch the pirate copy, Deadpool would probably be the one to pirate it. Check out the non pirate version below.

X-Men: Apocalypse

angel-and-apocalypse-headerArchangel is set to join the myriad of mutants already confirmed for X-Men Apocalypse. Archangel (for the uninitiated) is the evil blue form of Angel. In the comics Angel had lost his wings and Apocalypse offered to give him some shiny metal ones in return for his services as one of his 4 horsemen. The process turned him blue. This leaves us with the obvious question. If the Smurfs are blue then how come they don’t have wings?

Batman V Superman

We’ve got some fresh news on Ben Affleck and Zack Snyder’s new take on Batman courtesy of Empire.

EmpireBar640Zack pitched me his concept for this older, more broken, kind of fucked up Batman. It was something we haven’t seen. We have seen that Batman is willing to cross the line to protect people. That vigilantism has been a part of his character all along, and we are tapping into that mentality when faced by something as potentially as deadly as Superman.” -Affleck

Snyder stated that Batman would be in his mid  40’s with about 20 years of Batmanning under his belt . He even hinted that at one point there had been a Robin.

“We want to assume that Batman has reached this point in his life and career as a superhero, and Superman represents a sort of philosophical change. He is a paradigm shift for Batman: ‘I’ve been fighting criminals all my life, trying to find justice, and now I am confronted with a concept that is transcendent to me’. In the face of Superman, a man robbing a bank doesn’t matter. He’s having a crisis of conscience.” -Snyder

Bourne

tommy lee jonesJust another little tit bit (tid bit?) on the new Bourne film that’s coming your way. Tommy Lee Jones has joined the cast as a gnarled piece of driftwood that’s after Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne. Also involved is Julia Stiles and Viggo Mortensen. Paul Greengrass is back to direct and the release date is set for July 29, 2016 in the USA.

Zoolander 2

People love themselves some Zoolander right? It seems like Zoolander was Ben Stiller at the height of his powers, I imagine it wasn’t long after There’s Something About Mary and Meet the Parents although I’m too lazy to look it up.
I’m not crazy about Zoolander myself but then I’m not not crazy about it. Check out the trailer below.

After watching that all I can think about is Stephen Hawking. Did they do the right thing and pay him to do that voice over and if so how aware of the first Zoolander is he? Is he a fan? Or did they just type all that into one of those voice reader things instead and save themselves a whole heap of money and bother? Which is it? Also I did google his filmography and I was right. There’s Something About Mary (1998) and then Meet the Parents (2000) followed by Zoolander (2001) and then its mostly crappy rom-coms and kids movies with t he odd Tropic Thunder thrown in.

Netflix, Xbox and Playstation

wet hot ruddLast week we had a whole slew of films on Netflix for you to sink your teeth into. This week it’s mostly documentaries from PBS and My Little Pony movies. There are however 2 standouts. Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp and Stuart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle. The first is a series from almost every american comedy actor working today. Paul Rudd, Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Kristen Wigg, Elizabeth Banks and more. It looks like a lotta fun.  The second is a series by the comedian’s comedian Stuart Lee. If you missed it when it was on TV it’s worth a look. When it first aired Time Out gave it a negative review which Lee had written himself.  He described himself as “fat” and his performance as “positively Neanderthal, suggesting a jungle-dwelling pygmy, struggling to coax notes out of a clarinet that has fallen from a passing aircraft”

As for the free games that are on offer this month. If you have an XBOX ONE you’re getting Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and So Many Me. For XBOX 360 we have Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light. For PS3 God of War: Ascension, CastleStorm Complete Edition, Sound Shapes and Stealth Inc. 2: A Game of Clones. For PS4 Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, Limbo, Sound Shapes and Stealth Inc. 2: A Game of Clones.
