Get the Baileys out and put your best trackies on, Fifty Shades of Red White and Blue star Caroline Curran is teaming up with her best mate Julie Maxwell to bring you a huge helping of Christmas laughs at the Theatre at the Mill in her latest play My Big Fat Belfast Christmas.
After starring in last year’s Christmas ‘craic-er’ Slimmer for Christmas at the Mill, the girls decided to try writing their own holiday tale.
It’s the night before Christmas and Ma Mary and Da Joe are getting the house ready for the homecoming of elder daughter Mary and her new boyfriend Youcef – better known as ‘yer man’. A stressed out Ma Mary is up to her eyes stuffing the turkey while Da Joe, with the help of a cheeky bottle of Bailey’s, is under strict orders to dress the tree. Meanwhile younger sister Mags, who dreams of being a fashion designer and is doing an online course by dressmaker Thelma Madine of ‘My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding’ fame, is not looking forward to the return of ‘Lady Muck’.
Described as a ‘cross between an action-packed festive edition of the Royle Family and the glitz and glitter of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding’ this is sure to be one not to miss, especially for those all important girls nights out to help you get into the festive spirit.
This production is not only Curran and Maxwell’s first shot at writing, it’s also Belfast writer and director Fionnuala Kennedy’s first big stage production as a director, so it should be interesting to see how all of this fresh talent manifests on stage.
Running from 1st December to 2nd January (excluding 24-27 of December and January 1), this is a warm-hearted, modern and humorous take on the Nativity Story that I’m sure we all can relate to. For more information or to book tickets click here.
