10 Awesome Things To Do In Northern Ireland This Week (13th-19th February 2017)

Every week across Northern Ireland there are many fun and interesting events that take place and Tourism Northern Ireland has made a list of just some of them. 

1. NI Science Festival, various locations, until February 26. With over 100 events across 25+ venues, the NI Science Festival offers a stimulating and wide range of events focusing on the wonders of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. These events present some of the best scientists from NI and beyond to discuss their work, cutting-edge research and what the future might hold.
2. Valentine’s Day at the Folk Park, Ulster American Folk Park, Co Tyrone, February 14. Spend an afternoon with one of the costumed interpreters at the Ulster American Folk Park who will demonstrate and assist you in making a Lover’s Knot. You can also discover the art of decorative straw work and learn of the significance these delightful tokens had in bygone days.
3. Scooby Doo Live, SSE Arena, Belfast, February 15- 16. Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc. gang take centre stage in an all-new family musical, Scooby-Doo Live! Musical Mysteries, presented by Warner Bros. Filled with wacky new characters and uproarious antics, Scooby-Doo Live! Musical Mysteries has young audiences on the edge of their seats in traditional Scooby-Doo fashion from the moment the lights go down.
4. Shakespeare’s Woman, Market Place Theatre, Co. Armagh, February 17. Can one woman’s advice stop the other doing something stupid? This new play breathes new life into Shakespeare’s most famous females. Seamlessly fusing modern comedy and drama with classical verse, audiences will experience Shakespeare and his favourite ladies in a brand new light.
5. Northern Ireland Puddle Jumping Championships, Castle Espie, Co. Down, February 17 – 19. Make a big splash this February at Castle Espie by entering the Northern Ireland Puddle Jumping Championships. Follow Dusty Duck’s example and grab your wellies, get outside and have a splashing time creating the biggest, craziest splashes possible!
6. Dirty Dancing, Millennium Forum, Derry~Londonderry, February 13 – 18. Get ready to polish off your dancing shoes and practise those lifts as the West End hit musical, Dirty Dancing, telling the classic story of Baby and Johnny dances its way into the Millennium Forum. Featuring the hit songs ‘Hungry Eyes’, ‘Hey! Baby’, ‘Do You Love Me?’ and the heart stopping ‘(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life’, this is a show not to be missed.
7. Belfast CityDance Festival, Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast, February 17 – 19. Organised by the Crescent Arts Centre, CityDance is Belfast’s longest running interactive dance festival with free activities and performances for all ages, delivered right into the heart of communities within Belfast. There are many community centres taking part, with tons of free dance sessions and professional dance performances in the evenings.
8. Steel Magnolias, Ardhowen Theatre, Co. Fermanagh, February 16 – 18. Steel Magnolias is the latest production the acclaimed Enniskillen Amateur Dramatic Society. Truvy’s beauty salon sets the scene where the women of Chinquapin parish regularly gather. Despite their differences, beautiful and impulsive Shelby, her strong-willed mother, M’Lynn, beauty parlour owner Truvy, elegant wealthy widow, Claire, sharp-tongued Ouiser and mousey newcomer assistant Annelle, enjoy friendship that spans the boundaries of age and status.
9. Invasion N.I., Eikon Exhibition Centre, Lisburn, Co. Antrim, February 18 – 19. Featuring life sized replica props, sets and characters from the new and original Star Wars trilogy’s, meet and greets with special guest actors Admiral Piett (Kenneth Colley) and Logray the Ewok (Mike Edmonds) plus ‘Force Training’ for kids, Invasion N.I is a must not miss for the family! This will be Northern Ireland’s largest ever Star Wars fan convention, run by fans…for fans!
10. Stramash, Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre, Derry~Londonderry, February 17. A unique event in which the Stramash trio perform ‘islands’, based on an exhibition hosted by the Fenderesky Gallery. The trio of writer/curator John Brown and musicians Aidan Mulholland (fiddle and guitar) and Hazlett Keers (guitar and bouzouki) combine music, poetry and visual art projections of stunning contemporary art as featured in the exhibition.
