Stendhal Festival of Art is flying the flag for Ireland and Northern Ireland as the only event on the island to be nominated in this year’s UK Festival awards.
Having been named the Best Small Festival in Ireland for the past three years at the Irish Festival Awards, the four nods granted to the festival represent the first time the Limavady based event has been recognised at UK level.
Stendhal has been nominated for The UK’s Best Small Festival; The UK’s Best Family Festival, The UK’s Best Grass Roots Festival and is also up for Best Toilets at a UK Festival.
Voting is open until October 31 and if you would like to see this home grown music and arts festival represented amongst the best music festivals in the UK you can vote for them now at www.festivalawards.com
Event Director Ross Parkhill says that he and the team behind Stendhal are delighted to be in running for the awards.
“We’re obviously thrilled to just be in the conversation,” he said. “We’ve always stayed true to what we believe makes a festival a festival and it has clearly resonated with people to the point that we are now being nominated for awards not just in Irish circles, but UK wide too.
“There are so many top quality festivals all over the UK so to just be mentioned in the same sentence as some of them is a fantastic complement to us.”
Asked if he thought that Stendhal could win in any of the categories, Ross said: “Well it’s a public vote so you never know. It would be fantastic to win at a UK level. It would be great for our event, great for our town and the wider Northwest, so I hope that people will go and give us their vote and bring some good news to the area.
“If not though, as I’ve said, we’re delighted to be in both the Irish and UK conversation when it comes to best festivals.”
Looking forward, Ross also confirmed that the team have set a date for the 2017 event and added that it would be announced soon.
“We are working way on making Stendhal even better for 2017,” he said, “we enjoyed what was unquestionably our most successful event in terms of footfall and line-up last year and we are really going all out to build on that and really push the boat out again next summer.
“Dates will be announced very soon, it will be around the same time as it is every year but we will be confirming in the next few weeks.”
