These questions and many others relating to the work of the British Board of Film Classification will be answered at a special presentation and interactive workshop event for Media and Film Studies students. Captain Phillips – The true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years! Due to a huge difference in the way they perceive life, the relationship between students and their new German language teacher becomes critically tense. When one of the students tragically commits suicide, her classmates accuse the teacher of being responsible for her death. Unfortunately the realisation that things are not so black and white comes too late! The official Slovenian entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2014 Academy Awards.
Film critic, broadcaster and journalist Mark Kermode will return to Cinemagic to introduce and discuss A Matter of Life and Death, his 2014 festival pick! Mark will also be sharing his thoughts on the year’s new film releases before answering questions from the audience! This is the 10th anniversary of ‘Mark Kermode Film Night’ at Cinemagic so expect some reminiscing of past film night picks as well as a few surprises! MUSIC FOR FILM Q&A WITH DAVID ARNOLD
David Arnold is an award-winning English film composer best known for scoring five James Bond films, Stargate, Independence Day, Godzilla and the television series Little Britain and Sherlock. For Independence Day he received a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition Written for a Motion Picture or for Television and for Sherlock he, and co-composer Michael Price, won an Emmy for the ‘original dramatic score’ to His Last Vow, the final episode in the third series. Arnold is a fellow of the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors. David is currently working on the theatrical adaptation of the 2010 award winning film drama Made in Dagenham (Cert: 15). A screening of Made in Dagenham will take place after the Q&A. The Q&A will be hosted by voice artist, presenter and producer Tim Burden.
