Wee Toast Tours is Belfast’s latest and greatest cycle tour of the city, and the best part? Not only can you have a wee drink while you do it, it’s highly encouraged.
If you’ve been to any major European city then you might have seen one of these massive bicycle contraptions cruising around, but now Belfast has its very own pedal pub and it’s taking the city by storm. Starting out on Culture Night earlier this year Wee Toast Tours has only been around for few months, but it’s already causing a stir.
We climbed aboard last night to try out our pedalling skills and see what the tour is all about. Be sure to check out our upcoming PastieCast podcast at the start of December to hear a full interview with Jennifer Kenna, owner of the bike.
We began our tour at Blackstaff Square (out the back of the Crown, near Olios – you really can’t miss the bike) and cruised around City Hall at a mighty pace of 7 miles per hour taking in the sights and listening to Queen’s “I Want to Ride my Bicycle” while everyone we passed waved, shouted and gazed in our direction – we even acquired some extra cyclists when we stopped off at City Hall. This was definitely a unique experience.
Now down to the details. The bike has a total of 15 seats. 10 people pedal, while 5 sit back and relax and the driver and barista is provided. A seat costs £10 for an hour or £20 for two hours or you can hire the whole thing for £150 an hour! The bike even plays music and you can plug in your iPod to play your own tunes. No drink is sold on the bike, so it’s bring your own, and you stop off at selected pubs along the way to help top you up. Other tours like food tours, stag/hen parties and birthdays can be arranged too.
We’d definietly recommend Wee Toast Tours to help make any occasion extra special. It’s a great, unique experience that you won’t be forgetting any time soon, and let’s face it, it’s a work out too – so no next day guilt!
