Earlier on, Valentine earned the approval from PWU owner Terry T to enter into the Number One Contender’s match, which he then promptly won. This was an exciting opener also featuring JDP and Magico, who really shone throughout.
Karl McKaigue’s long tenure as All-Ulster Championship ended, as he put the gold on the line against Brian Corr. The latter showcased a new, re-invigorated attitude as a heel with both a chip on his shoulder and a troublesome wench in his corner. This was a fine contest, in which McKaigue showed a lot more fire than previously, riled up by his antagonists. The distractions proved too much for the fan-favourite though and Corr took the title, much to the disappointment of McKaigue’s loyal followers.
The show’s other interesting development concerned former PWU Champion, JDP. The heavyweight hit the ring following the Whippersnappers’ winning defence of the tag belts, against The Wild Stallions. The tussle was a reasonable effort, enlivened by a few exciting spots, but mainly notable for the really arresting performance of Rocky Starr. Afterwards, JDP and manager 101 allied with a new grappler, who was familiar to fans as a member of PWU’s ringside crew. Given that they tore apart the champions, it seems likely that they view the tag belts as a potential target.
In the surprise hit of the night, B-Cool took on Phil “The Thrill” Boyd in a genuinely funny comedy match. This really delighted the crowd. It was obvious what was in store right from the beginning, as both oversold the impact of each move with uproarious results. One memorable moment had B-Cool miscalling a “Stunner”, while applying a Pedigree, while Phil look on the marginally less incompetent role. Eventually, both men had their shoulders on the mat for a pinning combination, and were both declared winners. The crowd wanted “5 more minutes” to determine a true victor, but both “athletes” decided they could only do 2. During the course of this, they took a trip down memory lane with a whole host of pinfalls and reversals in a World of Sport mold. Amusingly, it appeared though that in this instance, neither knew how they were executing such moves, and reacted in shock at their own aptitude for it. In the end, they agreed to call it a day and settle for a draw, then formed an alliance and celebrated.
Elsewhere, Christopher Tiberius Banks III continued his hot streak as a sleazy, technically-minded heel in a very solid encounter with Hamish Crawford. This bout included some stiff brawling around the ringside area which really rattled the ring-posts and steps, and some compelling mat-work from CTB3. He managed to pin the Scotsman after drilling him with his Bankrupt finisher off the top rope. It looked very much as if CTB3 has a score to settle with PWU management, and this could be an interesting new direction for him. Crawford suffered a mild concussion in the closing moments of the match, and had to be helped to the back. However, PWU have since stated that he is recovering, and should be fine!
