The star power was in full force as the NI Skyscraper Tron bashed heads with ‘The Gold Standard’ Shelton Benjamin in a battle of the big men. Weight & Height vs Muscle & Athletic Ability made for a hard hitting and ferocious match, with at points Shelton letting his ability get the better of him as Tron caught him coming off the top rope and scuppered his high flying attempts before laying him down with a side walk slam. Shelton was able to recover quickly however and kip up, he bounced off the ropes to lock Trons neck in and land his finishing move ‘The Paydirt’ for the 1,2,3. He made a quick speech afterwards about how the bout was as demanding as it looked and Tron being a tough guy. He also praised the NI crowd, because y’know, we’re awesome!
The main event saw PWU Champ Tucker face No.1 Contender (and good buddy) Luther Valentine in a bout that looked fairly evenly matched on paper. As evenly matched as they looked, they proved to be. A 30 min Iron Man match that truly defined the phrase ‘Back and Forth’. Holds and counter holds, Slams and counter slams were the order of the day and some damn stingy looking slaps mid match. A Swanton Bomb, a Pedigree, near double count out and numerous 2 counts left us ultimately looking at a 0-0 draw at the end of the 30 minutes. No pins, but a great wrestling match that had the crowd chanting ‘This Is Awesome’ from the early minutes However it was in the closing minutes that it all unravelled as the lights cut out and ‘Not-Contracted-By-PWU’ wrestlers Damien Corvin and Bonesaw appeared and beat down Tucker and Luther just as their match had ended. As they left (and left us speechless) Tron charged down to stick the boot in on an already deflated Luther Valentine and throw his frickin’ Platinum brief case around again. Shelton Benjamin must’ve taken umbridged to this as he flew in to chase the cowardly Tron out of the ring clutching his case like it where a tiny baby.
Another great night of wrestling by the guys in PWU, and a series of events that would have Vince Russo smiling from ear to ear sets us up with some new feuds and continues some existing ones as they take a break until February. As Terry Thompson left us for the night he echo’ed my sentiment exactly ‘Have a very Terry Little Christmas!’
