It’s just after 7pm on Sunday 4th May. As I enter the Holiday Inn the chants of “Tucker, Tucker” are near deafening. The crowd is even bigger than the one at the Wrestlemania weekend, so I take a seat near the back. Two crowd favourites – Tucker and JDP – are in the ring and champion JDP has just chosen Tucker as his opponent to battle for his title tonight. The two shake hands and what is sure to be a gentlemen’s competition is set. The first match is for the Platinum Ticket Tournament and sees Rocky Star vs Manic Mac. Rocky Star jumps and flies around the ring like a manic but in the end his speed is no match for Maniac Mac’s brute force, who slams him down for the 1,2,3.
Next up we have tag team action with Bronson and Chris Tiberius Banks III AKA Trust Fund vs Whippersnappers, a team the crowd lovingly refer to as the JOB Squad. It’s an almost self-prophesying chant as Trust Fund prove themselves the victors.
Nero vs Tron is a classic David vs Goliath story, nu-punk Nero seems to be standing a good foot and a half under Tron’s 7ft+ frame. In a surprising turn Nero scoops Tron up for a 3 second tan! The crowd goes wild and so does Tron as he choke slams Nero near through the mat after the match, then does a sit down side shoulder slam on one of the pupils from the PWU training school – it just so happens to be a young teenage girl. A stunned silence swept through the Holiday Inn, as the only thing to be heard is the officials trying to calm down an irate 7ft monster. Suddenly Luther Valentine’s music breaks and he charges the ring, as finally someone nearing Tron’s size is here to sort him out. An impromptu match is made, Tron finds himself being matched for strength by Luther and eventually storms out like a dragon with a sore head. A count out makes Tron’s second loss of the night official.
