Whilst I love to look at new fashion trends on the runway and incorporate them into my outfits. I also have many treasured timeless pieces in my wardrobe that I will wear again and again. Having wardrobe staples is absolutely key to success when it comes to having a versatile clothing collection.
I’ve had a lot of my clothing for over 20 years and it still looks as good as it did when I bought it, that’s the magic of a great piece of clothing, technically, it should never go out of fashion.
Here are 5 staples I couldn’t live without:
Black Basics
I think it’s always important to have good basics in your wardrobe as they can pretty much go with anything and you can use them for layering. The black blouse I’m wearing here I’ve had for around 25 years and continue to wear all the time. My black trousers are also about 30 years old but are still something I continue to wear. Paired together the blouse and trousers can give a jumpsuit look.
Blazers
For me blazers are a staple piece in my wardrobe and something I will keep wearing year after year. The red blazer worn in the outfit above I’ve had for around 25 years and I bought it from a German designer. In my opinion it’s a timeless piece that can compliment so many outfits I find it easy to just put together a plain outfit, say all black and then dress it up with a blazer. You can add a pop of colour or simply go for a monochromatic look.
Statement Accessories
A statement accessory can really make or break an outfit. I love to have a really out there piece that people will notice. For example, the clock bag in the picture, is a fully functioning clock that I brought back from Canada. I know that it will always add the wow factor to any outfit.
Big Sunglasses
These are a new purchase for me but I know they are about to become a wardrobe staple. I recently purchased these Gucci sunglasses on my cruise and I am in love with them. I think a pair of large sunglasses can really make any outfit and I love the colours in this pair.
A Good Pair of Jeans
My favourite pair of jeans I’ve had around 20 years and they are just the perfect fit and style. I am a huge fan of the double denim trend and love to pair these jeans with denim jackets for the perfect everyday look. Once you find the right pair of jeans, buy them in every colour.
