We’ve discussed before how much I love coffee, so on World Coffee Day (which is apparently a thing) I decided to treat myself to some of the newly launched Belfast Coffee Co’s finest beans! Eager to try their wares I ground both just before brewing and sampled both in filter and Aeropress just so I could compare and contrast tastes from the different methods (I told you I love coffee…).
Colombian South Huila £6.49 250g
My first one was their Colombian and I have to admit that generally my go to beans are Colombian, so I was excited to try this one. It really is an awesome brew that comes through smooth but punchy with a sweet delicate flavour that takes a slight uplift at the end, leaving your palate a little more strongly than when you first taste it, but with little aftertaste overall. It has a wonderful aroma of berries and chocolate and is a great all day drink that has a really sunny profile and gave me a warm fuzzy feeling whilst I was drinking it!
Guatemala Volcanic Atitlan £9.00 250g
I called this ‘volcano juice’ as it’s grown in dark volcanic soil. This gives it a much more robust flavour, perfect for your first cup in the morning or one late at night. A really even taste with slight citrus notes that gives way to hints of vanilla and what reminded me slightly of rolling or pipe tobacco. There’s a sweetness too with this bean that helps smooth the more intense flavours out and helps to make it a really balanced cup.
I have to say that I really enjoyed both of these coffees and will be definitely be coming back for more. The single origin does costs a little more but you really do taste it in the cup. The clean bright flavours come through on both and it takes coffee from the heavy clouded flavours that we previously were used to to the light refreshing and complex flavours that coffee should have. I will definitely be ordering from these guys again and I would recommend these coffees in a heartbeat.
