Street Food Belfast is an interesting concept and last weekend they had their second event at Bouy Park at the Cathedral Quarter. The first event was held in the Assembly Rooms near the Whig a few months ago and was by all accounts a very successful affair. This one was a lot more ambitious, but due to the poor NI weather wasn’t as well attended, which is a damn shame as it was very good and something very different indeed.
To try and explain better, the area around the buoy’s was transformed into an elevated living room in a circus tent where you sat at eye level with the top of the buoys. It was all very grand and a wonderfully different place to enjoy a drink and a bite to eat. We went on the Sunday and choose a Street Dog from the selection of food vendors on offer. There was a good range of foods to choose from, from goat to pulled pork – all local and all looking delicious. My beef hotdog smothered in chili, cheese, jalapeños and hot sauce was very good indeed and absolutely massive. I also grabbed a Farmageddon IPA from the Lavery’s bar before ascending to the living room in the sky. As it was the Sunday they had bouncy castles and there was definitely a family atmosphere. The kids we had with us danced around and mingled with others and enjoyed the quirkiness of the whole thing. It was a little cold but being November we had brought coats and a few beers helped stave off the cold also.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at ProjectSFB and look forward to the next one, although perhaps it might be best leaving the more outdoor based ones to the summer time, as NI is known for its temperamental weather. Hopefully this inspires you to keep a look out and pop down to the next one too as it really is worth checking out!
