It’s 2016 and we’re back again with our round up of the latest Netflix goodies. Before we get to the pick of the week, lets run down through the other goodies on offer.
Pulp Fiction – Get ready for the Hateful Eight with a Tarintino’s classic. Some say his best work but for me there are so many that I don’t think I could pick just one. Travolta, Jackson, Willis, Roth, Thurman, the list goes on.
The Others – Spooky horror starring Nicole Kidman in a big old house. Low on gore, high on scares. I believe they call this type of film ‘atmospheric’. If that’s your thing then this will be your thing. There’s some creepy kids in it too. That always helps.
Big Trouble in Little China – John Carpenter’s epic tale of Kurt Russell’s battle against nonsense. This film if full of goofy practical effects, racial stereotypes, black magic and Kim Cattrall. It’s quite the film. Quite the film indeed.
47 Ronin – A band of samurai set out to avenge the death and dishonor of their master at the hands of a ruthless shogun. This film got somewhat of a panning when it was released but I’m a sucker for Keanu Reeves and samurai movies and as far as I can recall I enjoyed it, maybe you will too.
Pick of the week – Now we come to the big daddy. The pick of the week. Netflix has had a good run this week, plenty to choose from. There can only be one pick though. This week it’s There Will Be Blood.
If you like your drama with lots of drama and lots of Daniel Day-Lewis then this is what you should be watching. It could be about anything really because Day-Lewis is so watchable in anything he does, even Lincoln but it just so happens that the story itself is an absorbing one.
Silver miner Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis) leads a hardscrabble life with his son, H.W. (Dillon Freasier). When he hears about oil oozing from the ground near the Western town of Little Boston, Daniel takes his son on a mission to find their fortune. Daniel makes his lucky strike and becomes a self-made tycoon but, as his fortune grows, he deviates into moral bankruptcy.
