This week there’s more trailers than you can shake a stick at. It’s pretty much all trailers. It’s exhausting. There’s Tarzan, Alice Through the Looking Glass, a Patrick Stewart horror, X-Men, Warcraft, Ben-Hur. It’s Bananas! There’s like 8 trailers! Lets begin with some non trailer news though.
Indiana Jones
If you thought Crystal Skull was a dud then your in luck (or maybe not) because Spielberg is having another blast at an Indiana Jones sequel. Either Harrison Ford really likes playing Indy or he wishes he’d got a decent percentage of the Star Wars merchandising rights. That would have had him in old man earrings for life. Here’s the official press line just in case i’m making things up.
Indiana Jones will return to the big screen on July 19, 2019, for a fifth epic adventure in the blockbuster series. Steven Spielberg, who directed all four previous films, will helm the as-yet-untitled project with star Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role. Franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.
When someone actually asked Ford about why he was returning for Indy 5 he said:
“The opportunity to work with Steven again on this character which has brought pleasure to so many. Not to mention me. It’s fun, it’s great fun to play this character. It’s great fun to work with Steven, I’m looking forward to it”.
Watch it there Harrison, you don’t want to give too much away…
The Legend of Tarzan
Tarzan is back for the first time since Disney had a pop at an animated version (1999). In a Hollywood that’s often criticized with rehashing old stories and origins it seems like we might be getting something a little different. It may be a Tarzan film but it’s dispensing with all the back story stuff to tell a new story. We all know who Tarzan is, we don’t need an origin story. For this one Tarzan is going back to the jungle with Margot Robbie and Christoph Waltz no less.
It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Margot Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Christoph Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.
Suicide Squad
Director David Ayer has been has been talking to Total Film about his new Joker, Jared Leto.
“What Jared has done is absolutely incredible. When he steps onto the set the world stops. Everything stops. What he’s done is so powerful, so menacing, so palpable, you can feel him. The crew stops working and just watches him. I have to get everybody going again because he’s so fascinating”.
That’s all great and all but I can’t help but think they’re setting Leto up for a fall. When Heath Ledger took the role we knew virtually nothing until the trailers hit and we then saw the film. Everyone making the film has been going on, for what must be a year now, about how Leto has transcended the role, how he’s so method and ground breaking that they do the rest of the cast a disservice. I’m bored of Leto’s Joker already and all I’ve seen is a few promos that didn’t actually show him at all. Let his performance speak for itself is all I’m saying. Don’t hail it as the best thing since Ledger’s Joker until it’s out there. Also I’d like to add that I hope he isn’t topless for the whole film. He makes me feel cold just looking at him.
Ayer went on to say that we might be getting something unexpected with this one too.
“What’s interesting to me is how there’s been a lot to perception of what this film is because we have been exposed more than other movies. What people think this movie is, is not what it is. There’s much more to come”.
X-Men: Age of Apocalypse
A new trailer for AOA, this time showing the new X-Men showing off their destructive powers.
Ben-Hur
Ben-Hur is one of those films that’s real famous but a lot of people have just never seen. I’d maybe end up watching it if it was played on a Saturday afternoon on ITV or something but lets face it, I’m not gonna go searching for it on Netflix or um…… elsewhere. So it’s nice and handy that we’re getting a redo for all us younger heathens that missed it first time around.
Ben-Hur is the epic story of Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston), a prince falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother Messala (Toby Kebbell), an officer in the Roman army. Stripped of his title, separated from his family and the woman he loves (Nazanin Boniadi), Judah is forced into slavery. After years at sea, Judah returns to his homeland to seek revenge, but finds redemption. Based on Lew Wallace’s timeless novel, Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ. Also starring Morgan Freeman and Rodrigo Santoro.
Alice Through the Looking Glass
If you like CGI anthropomorphic animals and Zootropolis isn’t you’re thing, then Disney have something else that might work for you. It’s got the usual suspects Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham Carter playing mostly live action charachers and Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen, Timothy Spall and the late Alan Rickman doing voice work.

These trailers just keep on comin’ don’t they? What’s next then?
Warcraft
Duncan Jones (Moon) latest is coming soon enough. I’ve a feeling that World of Warcraft isn’t quite as popular as it once was, it’s taken a while to get this into production but it’ll still do some big money. We’ve a new promo for it below. It looks like LOTR mixed with GOT with a bit of Avatar and that old Dungeons and Dragons movie thrown in. A lot of CG work. I’m not as pumped about is as I feel i should be but if anyone can make a decent movie out of all of this, it’s Duncan Jones.

Central Intelligence
Its The Rock and Kevin Hart doing a buddy cop thing. It’s worked well for them both so far so why stop now? Here’s the official run down.
The story follows a one-time bullied geek, Bob, who grew up to be a lethal CIA agent (Dwayne Johnson), coming home for his high school reunion. Claiming to be on a top-secret case, he enlists the help of former “big man on campus,” Calvin (Kevin Hart), now an accountant who misses his glory days. But before the staid numbers-cruncher realizes what he’s getting into, it’s too late to get out, as his increasingly unpredictable new friend drags him through a world of shoot-outs, double-crosses and espionage that could get them both killed in more ways than Calvin can count.

The Nice Guys
maybe you’re not stoked about another buddy cop comedy. Maybe you will be stoked when you find out that it’s got Russell the Crow and Baby Goose in it and that it was written by Shane Black(bird). Despite all avian puns though this has nothing to do with birds.

Green Room
This looks like it could be interesting. Patrick Stewart playing against type here and looking pretty mean, synopsis and trailer below.
Green Room is a brilliantly crafted and wickedly fun horror-thriller starring Patrick Stewart as a diabolical club owner who squares off against an unsuspecting but resilient young punk band.
