This week we have news on a bunch of sequels that you may be interested in Alien, Finding Nemo, Kingsman, Thor, Jurassic World. We have some new stuff too including Lego Star Wars but its mainly sequels. Everyone loves sequels. Also ‘all new’ X-Files starts this Monday on Channel 5 if you want to watch that. I’ll be watching it so perhaps we can watch it together. It’s a date!
Alien: Covenant
According to FOX last November, Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and newcomer Katherine Waterston were all set for Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant. That seems to have changed though as when the Daily Mail (I know, the Daily Mail right?) asked director Ridley Scott if Noomi would be returning as Elizabeth Shaw. Scott said, “No, We’re still casting the main roles.”. Does this mean Fassbender and Waterston could be gone too? Something tells me no but it still makes a big change from what Fox said only a few months ago. Noomi was one of the best things about Prometheus along with Fassbender of course. Sad pandas. Sad pandas all round.
The Hulk
That title may be a bit misleading as this isn’t about a new Hulk movie. It’s about a lack of one. It’s been well documented that Universal own the rights to Hulk movies but Marvel is still have the right to feature them in their movies, just not as a stand alone picture. The thirst for more Hulk has not gone unnoticed and he’s been added to Thor 3 and it looks like he’ll have a large part in the next 2 Avengers too. Mark Ruffalo has been speaking about his alter egos.
“We have worked a really interesting arc into Thor 3, Avengers 3 and 4 for Banner that I think will – when it’s all added up – will feel like a Hulk movie, a standalone movie”.
He also spoke a little about the appointment of Taika Waititi as director.
“That’s a surprise and it fits part of this Marvel doing the unexpected, casting the unexpected, and now bringing in the unexpected for writer and director. I’m really interested in where that’s going. They’re writing the script now. I am thinking about it, I’m doing script meetings and stuff so we’re starting to prep it”.
Taika Waititi directed ‘What we do in the Shadows’ which is on Netflix at the moment and is worth checking out. He also directed a couple of episodes of Flight of the Conchords. So Thor: Ragnarok is shaping up to be something special. Taika mentioned recently that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is:
“such a big part of it, and he’s such a great part of it. My focus really is making sure that Thor is the best character, though”
.And how verbal will the mindless Hulk be this time around?
“It’s interesting, because at the moment, there’s a big conversation that’s happening about how far to push that.I think a lot of those conversations have more to do with what’s going to come up in future movies. So I think a lot of those decisions are larger group decisions, rather than anything to do with just me or the writer”.
It’s also been all but confirmed that Cate Blanchett’s character will be Hela, ruler of Hel and the realm of Niflheim, which makes sense when you consider Ragnarok is the Viking version of the end of the world.
Finding Dory
We have our first look at Finding Nemo sequel, Finding Dory. Do you see what they did there? Check out the UK trailer which features a very sleepy Dory and a bunch of underwater stuff.
Animals
Animals is a new comedy series starting on HBO from co-creators Phil Matarese & Mike Luciano and produced by the Duplass Brothers.
ANIMALS. focuses on the downtrodden creatures native to planet Earth’s least habitable environment: New York City. Whether it’s lovelorn rats, gender-questioning pigeons or aging bed bugs steeped in midlife crisis, the existential woes of non-human urbanites prove startlingly similar to our own.
I’ve no idea when and if this will come to the UK but my bet is, if it’s any good it’ll probably be picked up by Netflix. Check out the trailer, it looks pretty interesting plus you know it’s got animals in it. People love animals.

Kingsman: The Secret Service 2
Taron Egerton (Eggsy in the first film) has been giving a few details on Kingsman: The Secret Service 2 while at Sundance.
“With Kingsman, we’re shooting in the summer at present. There’s a script, it’s brilliant. Obviously there’s only so much I can say but what I can say is that we shot [the original] one all in the UK, that won’t be the case with the next one. […] it’s a far more international story, we’re going to some incredible places, and we have a villain to rival Samuel L. Jackson – this new one is so brilliantly written I wish I could play it. It’s amazing”.
He seems pretty stoked. If it can match the first film then that’s good enough for me.
A couple months ago Cinema Blend got to talk to Egerton about the chances of Colin Firth’s return. Firth was one of the best things about the film and will be sorely missed if he’s not in the follow up. BTW Spoiler Alert.
“Well, I mean, I think he’s pretty dead. Shot in the head. But, I mean, I still have dreams that … I always thought it would be lovely to see Eggsy and Harry reunited. I have this, you know, I have my own fantasies about that. But I haven’t heard anything to suggest that he will be coming back. Unless they build a robot version of him, or he has an evil twin or something.”
This would have obviously been the end for the character, i don’t think many expected there to be any chance he’d return but director Matthew Vaughn was able to offer a lifeline for the character.
“A lot of people are very upset that Colin might not be in the sequel but I’m coming up with ideas at the moment. If people buy tickets in America, I’ve got a feeling we’ll figure out a way for having Colin back.”
Kingsman: The Secret Service 2 is due out on June 16th 2017 with or without Colin Firth.
Jurassic World 2
Jurassic World 2 is a long way away. We can expect it at the end of 2018. We do know that Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly are back writing the script. Trevorrow, who directed the first one will be off directing Star Wars Episode IX so someone else will be filling his shoes. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are returning and according to Bryce, her character (Claire) is “a different person now”.
“The person she is at the end of the [first] movie is not the person she was in the beginning. Her armour of sorts was that white, pristine outfit with heels in a very corporate environment and stuff, and the chick at the end – totally different. So yeah… it better not be heels.”
Kubo and the Two Strings
Kubo and the Two Strings, a stop motion and CG mix, with a voice cast including Matthew McConaughey, Ralph Fiennes, George Takei, Charlize Theron and Rooney Mara is due out this August. We showed you the teaser a while back but with only a couple months to go until release, we have a full trailer.

LEGO: Star Wars The Force Awakens
This week I leave you with a neat little trailer for Lego’s movie tie in game. Even if you’ve never bought a Lego game in your life it’s worth checking out as it’s more of a spoof trailer done Lego style. It’s worth a few yuks.
