Justice League Dark, Thor, Captain America This week we have some pictures from Beauty and the Beast (at last!), some news on Justice League Dark and Captain America’s standing in the MCU after Civil War. We’ve also got a nice little video about what Thor got up to when Tony and Steve were going at it.
Justice League Dark
The Justice League Dark movie is getting that little bit closer to reality. For those unfamiliar with the group, Wikipedia describes them thus.
The Justice League Dark, or JLD, is a fictional superhero team that appears in comic books published by DC Comics. First appearing in Justice League Dark #1 (September 2011), the Justice League Dark originally featured John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Shade, the Changing Man and Zatanna. The team consists of the more supernatural members of the DC Universe, handling situations deemed unfit for the traditional Justice League.
Other members include Frankenstein and Swamp Thing. Guillermo del Toro was attached at one point (to the film not the group) but he dropped out a while ago. Now Doug Liman of the underrated Edge of Tomorrow has been hired to direct and a new title has been given so that it’s not confused with any other Justice League movies that might be coming soon. Justice League Dark will now be known as Dark Universe.
Doctor Strange
Marvel’s Doctor Strange is bringing some new material to the cutting room before the film hits in December. Usually this send alarm bells ringing but these reshoots are being written by Dan Harmon, known for Community and Rick and Morty. One would expect these new scenes will add some levity to the film which does look a bit serious at the minute. I wish he could rewrite Tilda Swinton’s bald head though. That’s all I think about when I think about that trailer. Her. Bald. Head.
Captain America
Captain America: Civil War, directors Joe and Anthony Russo have been talking to Huffington Post about the ramifications of Steve dropping the shield at the end of the film.
“I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity,” said Joe. “[It’s] him admitting that certainly the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making.”
That doesn’t mean that Steve Rogers is gone from the MCU though. In the comics he takes up the name Nomad after leaving the identity of Captain America behind. This might be where they’re heading. He’s also already set for Infinity War so they’ll be keeping him around for that.
“There’s a big purple guy coming. He could be very helpful,” said co-writer Christopher Markus.
Thor: Ragnarok
This week we’ve got some concept art for you and a nice little pic of Odin dressed as a hobo. As a bonus we’ve got our hands on that fake documentary footage explaining where Thor was during Civil War.
Disney’s Beauty And The Beast
Bill Condon’s live action/CGI Beauty and the Beast film is coming soon and looks like it might just capture the tone of the original Disney Cartoon. Two pictures have been released of Lumiere and Cogsworth, and Gaston (sort of) singing his famous Gaston based song.
