Public Transport:
Translink will offer special rail, bus and coach services and Park and Ride facilities to get visitors to and from the events in the various locations. Due to road closures, please allow extra time to get to and from wherever you’re going. Some timetable changes and diversions to bus services will be required in areas affected by the event. For all the info you need about travelling this weekend have a look here.

Road Closures:
There will be a lot of road closures across Northern Ireland throughout the three days of the race. So keep an eye out for those pink road signs telling you all about them. For more information there’s a list of the road closure times for each day along with maps and more essential information here. There’s also a whole bunch of brochures and leaflets about the race that you can have a look at here.

Other things to do:
There’s lots going on throughout May to help you get into the spirit of things. You can check out a full rundown of all the events going on here. Highlights include Belfast’s Get On Yer Bike! Festival running from the 3rd – 11th May, the Festival of Fools and the Giro D’Italia Big Start festival in Armagh.

Facts:

  • You’ve been seeing pink everywhere because pink is the colour of the coveted leader’s jersey called the Maglia Rosa
  • The person who crosses the finish line first on the final day is not necessarily the winner – the winner has the overall shortest time for the whole tour.
  • The race began in 1909. The 1909 race had eight stages; the 2014 race will have 21, over 3,450km.
  • This will be the 97th Giro D’Italia race
