We’ve had a look around the site, we’ve checked out the facebook and we’re ready with the official hashtag – #CNB13 – the only thing we have left to do is work out what we’re actually going to see. There’s seemingly hundreds of events to go to, musicians to see and activities to take part in. Here’s our top 5, feel free to tell us who you’ll be checking out on the night in the comments below. Aaaarrrrggghhhh so many things to see and do and only one night! And of course check back on Monday for our reviews and photos of the night. They have a great wee build-your-own event planner on the site, so we’ve created one with all the details and times of the events listed here.
1. The Big Fat Drum Cirlce at Writers square is a great way to start the night off. 250 people all banging away in unison will get the blood pumping and get you jazzed up and energised for the night ahead.
2. PWU American Wrestling RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. These guys work their butts off and will be putting on a wrestling match every half an hour for pretty much the whole night. Stop by to cheer or boo and bring the little ones cause they’ll love it too.
3. Check out some music in Belfast newest pub Aether & Echo. the guys from Love & Death have been working hard to convert the Old Deers Head pub into Belfasts newest centre of refreshment. And for Culture night they’ve only gone and brought in Mr B. the Gentleman rhymer. Check him out for a unique brand of Chap Hop that you’ll not hear anywhere else.
4. Paul Currie is performing his Edinburgh Fringe set (and then some) FREE OF CHARGE in the Keats & Chapman book store. We’ve long said he’s the funniest thing in NI right now. Off the wall, inclusive and surrealist humour doesn’t even begin to describe this energetic and frantic show. Weirdly this doesn’t seem to be listed on the culture night site. The Facebook event for it however is here
5. Pigeon & Plum – Pop Up Penny Penopticon. We missed this last year and so are determined to catch the always brilliant vaudevillian stylings of Belfast’s greatest messers! Cabaret acts with an irreverent twist and always done in the best possible taste.
So there you have it. We’ve listed 5 here. We’ve also created a Culture Night approved listing on their site here with all the details you need and 1 extra recommend (since Paul Currie wasn’t listed). We’ll be down on the night soaking up as much of the atmosphere as we can (and maybe a few pints) if you do see us come and say hello I’m the fella in the photo below. We might even have some PB stickers to hand out (I know, I Know – too exciting)
