This week we’ve got news on Ghostbusters, Deadpool, A Series of Unfortunate Events and Star Wars! Bring on the dancing girls!
House of Cards
According to Deadline, Neve Campbell (it doesn’t look right to me but that’s how you spell it) will be joining Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright on House of Cards for season 4. She’s the aesthetically pleasing broad in the picture to the left there.
A Series of Unfortunate Events
There’s a new teaser trailer out for the upcoming Netflix series based on Lemony Snicket’s books. Last time the Baudelaire children were on our screens it was in the 2004 film of the same name starring Jim Carrey. I’m glad to see that Netflix has picked this up as the books were good fun. the movie got some things right and some things wrong but by the looks of things the teaser has the right kind of mood and a series rather than a film suits the source material better.
Kong: Skull Island
J. K. Simmons and Michael Keaton have left the King Kong prequel. Thor’s evil brother Loki (also known as Tom Hiddleston for some reason) is still with the project but losing the 2 actors can only hurt the film. Scheduling conflicts are said to be the reason for the actors’ departure. Hopefully they can get some decent actors to replace them because at the minute this isn’t exactly on my list of films to watch out for.
Batman vs Superman
Warner Bros. have released some high res pics from Bats v Supes mostly showing things we’ve seen like Batman and Superman looking at each other from the trailer as well as some pics of our heroes/villain out of costume. We see Lex Luthor (with hair) and a brief glimpse of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman dancing with Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne not to mention the Bat Torch (it’s called the Bat Torch, right?).
Deadpool
The Rated R superstar Deadpool has appeared on the cover of Entertainment Weekly’s comic-con issue. It’s no0t really news I know but it’s a nice looking cover with a good look at the suit. There’s also been some noise about the tone of the film. It’s good to hear producer Simon Kinberg assure everyone that Deadpool won’t be toned down and will be getting the full R treatment. According to Kinberg “It’s graphic. Nothing is taboo. You either commit to a truly outrageous boundary-pushing kind of movie or you don’t.” I’m still amazed that this film is even getting made, especially with Ryan Reynolds. Last time we saw Deadpool it was in an awful Wolverine film. Last time we saw Ryan Reynolds play a superhero it was as the Green Lantern in a film that bombed. Combine all that with the fact that it was Reynolds who played Deadpool in the wolverine movie the first time. Its amazing that he’s got a second chance at it. With all that said, I reckon he’s the only man for the job. If it doesn’t work this time it’ll never work.
Ghostbusters
Some casting news this time and we have Andy Garcia, Michael K Williams and now Neil Casey as the lead villain joining the film. We also have another picture tweeted by Paul Feig, this time of the Proton Pack for the film.
We also get a look at the new ECTO 1. It looks like the old one I guess but not as classy.
Star Wars
A few bits of news for you this week regarding the Star Wars Anthology films that we’ll be getting in the next few years. We already know that one will be a heist movie centered around a group of rebels trying to steal the plans for the death star ( I think they might succeed). The movie’s to be called Rogue One and is set to be directed by Gareth Edwards. What’s new is the fact that Darth Vader is set to return. the film is set before Star Wars: A New Hope so he wont be out of place. Sources say that he wont be the big bad of the film but will be pulling strings in the background.
The other Star Wars news we got this week was that one of the other anthology films will center around the early days of Han Solo. Chris Miller and Phil Lord of Jump Street and Lego Movie fame are directing and the screenplay looks to be in good hands too. Lawrence and Jon Kasdan are writing and they should know what they’re doing as they co-wrote The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Raiders of the Lost Ark as well as the new The Force Awakens.
Mortal Kombat X
The new Mortal Kombat looks more violent than ever. For most Kombat fans, that’s a good thing. And as if that wasn’t enough, The Predator is now being added to Mortal Kombat’s mix of psychotic killers that you can take control of as you decapitate your friends on a Sunday afternoon. Isn’t technology great? Check out the trailer below, it looks like a lot of fun. There’s also a skin that comes with so that you can play as Jaxx as if he were Carl Weathers from Predator. Time to get some revenge Carl. Predator is available to play now for everyone with the Kombat Pack DLC and will be available to purchase on the 14th for everyone else.
Netflix and Playstation Plus
Last week we were still waiting on the free games for playstation plus subscribers but now they’re in. The games are as follows: PS4 – Rocket League, Styx: Master of Shadows, MouseCraft and Entwined. PS3 – MouseCraft, Entwined and Rain. Now on to the Netflix pick of the week. It got a fair slating when it came out in cinemas but The Lone Ranger is a pretty decent movie, definitely worth a watch. It’s not too often that we get a big budget western and Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp do a good job here. That mask still ain’t fooling anyone though. If you’re into something a little darker we’re also getting one of my favourite movie, The Ninth Gate. The payoff might not live up to the rest of the film but it’s not about the destination it’s about the journey, right? I’m aware that both of these have Johnny Depp in them so for anyone bored of Mr. Depp and his Aussie dog handling shenanigans you can watch Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. If you don’t like westerns or Johnny Depp then I can’t help you i’m afraid.
