SCARY MOVIES AND SCARY CINEMA

Sinister

PastieBap didn’t get up to much this week, except going to the Omniplex to see Sinister. My review of that is thus: Omniplex cinemas are consistently bad. They’re under staffed and frequently mess up the projection.

We’ve encountered everything from broken speakers – “which one? Oh yeah we know about that one” – to reels going on fire. Also they all have blue lights installed above the stairs which bleed horribly into your line of vision when watching a movie and make watching 3D films anywhere near the middle seats impossible. But they’re the only cinemas near my house so we venture out to them occasionally and when it’s cheap.

Sinister however was a great film. Full of suspense and scares, without being boring in between. A few scenes could’ve feasibly been left on the cutting room floor, but all in all, pretty good horror fare!

Halloween is fast approaching and with it being held on a Wednesday this year that muddies the dates on which to celebrate no end, with parties being held Fri, Sat, Sun and then again on Wednesday. PastieBap this year is involved in 2 such events this year, so naturally we’re biased and are going to tell you about our own.

THE FIRST HORROR PICTURE SHOW – HALLOWEEN HAVOK

On Sunday night (28th Oct) we have the second edition of our monthly horror movie residence in association

with Uber geeks BAD HAVEN at the Hudson Bar – THE FIRST HORROR PICTURE SHOW – HALLOWEEN HAVOK. We’ll have the

place done up like a Halloween shop has thrown up all over the bar. We’ll have popcorn and Halloween treats

Psychoville

galore and of course THE MOVIES! This time since its Halloween we’re sticking with that theme (kinda obvious I know). So we’ll be star

ting off a little earlier than normal (7pm) with a showing of the darklyfunny PSYCHOVILLE HALLOWEEN SPECIAL. A great piece of black humour with a few properly disturbing moments. This works as a stand alone piece, interweaving several short stories around a central plot and also complimenting the series that went before. In other words you can watch this whether you have watched the previous series or not.

Next up (8pm) is the oft maligned HALLOWEEN 3: SEASON OF THE WITCH. Produced (and music written) by John Carpenter, this is a great departure from the Michael Myers storyline for the Halloween series and revolves around a completely different story line, with kids and masks and brain washing. Retaining a lot of the aesthetics of the original film and with a great score this film is a must see at this time of year.

Finishing off the night (9:30pm) the way you should at this time of year is the timeless JOHN CARPENTERS HALLOWEEN. If you’ve seen it you’ll know why it’s great. If you haven’t well then now is your opportunity. It’s the film that needs no introduction, so why not come down enjoy a beer and see it on the big screen. Oh and did we mention IT’S FREEIN?

First Horror Picture Show

HELLOWEENY

Moving on to 31st Oct which is actual HALLOWEEN. PastieBap aka DJ TrampCorpse will be spinning some tunes at Auntie Annie’s for the customary Mental Deficiency headlined gig HELLOWEENY. Mental Def always put on a great show and with 4 other local acts on before them this is like a rock n roll celebration of the dead! Co-Kane, (Roysta’s right hand man) Filthy Angels, Little Miss Stakes and Pigs as People are all on the bill. So you should throw on your best slutty nurses uniform, have a few shots of Pernod and come on down. Door tax is £5 which works out about £1 band (with a crap DJ thrown in for free) and doors open at 9pm, see you there!
