Lyric Theatre, Belfast continues its Lyric Theatre Online programming with the announcement that their acclaimed family production of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf will go live from 22nd May for one week only.
Written by award-winning Derek O’Connor, directed by Cahoots NI’s artistic director Paul Bosco Mc Eneaney, with music by Irish Musical Comedy Awards winner Ursula Burns, and starring Kyron Bourke as Big Bad, this spectacular family show was a huge hit when it was performed on the Lyric’s stage in 2015.
The stage is set, the moon is full, and the story of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf is about to get very interesting.
Everyone knows the story of Little Red Riding Hood. But who has ever thought about the real events behind the story? Where Rosie’s dear old Granny lived, for instance, and whether the Big Bad Wolf was really killed by the Woodsman. Certainly not the ramshackle troupe of traveling actors who roll into a town in the middle of nowhere one day to perform their take on the story. Nothing seems to be going right for them, but they have no idea just how bad things are about to get.
Lyric Theatre Online is the Lyric Theatre’s response to keeping the theatre alive during the lockdown period, while the building is closed to the public. Over the past six weeks they’ve been busy creating and compiling online entertainment to share with their audiences, to keep their stages bright, and give everyone the chance to enjoy great theatre from the comfort of their home.
Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf was supported by Arts Council of Northern Ireland National Lottery funding and Belfast City Council.
Jimmy Fay, Executive Producer, Lyric Theatre said:
“ Our stages may be dark but our mission to create, entertain, inspire as well as support and platform new work as we adapt during these challenging times goes on. We are delighted to continue to engage with our audiences through our online programming – Lyric Theatre Online. Audiences young and old are in for a treat with the amazing Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. You think you know the story – think again! So, sit back and enjoy this brilliant piece of theatre from the comfort of your own home.”
As a charity, the Lyric relies upon its audience for up to two-thirds of their income and is the largest employer of freelance actors and other theatre professionals in Northern Ireland. To help Lyric withstand this impact audiences can support by making a small donation as they enjoy Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf.
Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf is available to view for free from 22nd May for one week only on their website and their YouTube. Follow Lyric Theatre on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @LyricBelfast #LyricEntertain.
