The MAC has once again been transformed into Belfast’s most intimate theatre experience – The Luminare Club.  This year it hosts a few events but tonight we’re here to see ‘Bouncers’ a comedy by John Godber.

One club. One night. One world famous play, told the Belfast way.

A darkly funny play about the characters and shenanigans of an 80’s Belfast disco, as seen through the eyes of the club’s doormen.

The show is a co-production between The MAC and Big Telly and is a 4 man play starring Ciaran Nolan, Conor Grimes, Martin Maguire and Chris Robinson. Some you recognise the names, some the faces, but all play their parts brilliantly and have the audience roaring with the sharply written script, expert delivery and perfect timing.

The show boasts an impressive soundtrack with more hits than you can shake a pineapple at and stories of characters that everyone will know.  The setting of the Lumiere club, with table service and decadent surroundings, adds to the play and helps bring you into the scene and world that the bouncers inhabit. Four distinct characters in their own right, they all bring something different to the show and their interactions and chemistry help elevate this one to new heights.

Whilst on stage may be all men, it’s worth noting that behind the scenes 5 of the 6 people on the creative team bringing the show to life are women, with Director Zoe Seaton really making her mark with the show and demonstrating that the future of Big Telly is in safe hands.

Bouncers is a show to let your hair down to, that will have you laughing in your seat, with some poignant scenes to get you thinking a bit as well, but remember to book quickly because if your names not down, you’re not coming in!

Bouncers runs until 20th April at The MAC. Tickets available at the link.
