The challenge ( which came from a fellow photographer) was simple. Take a black and white photo every day for five days. That seems simple enough, until you face the Irish weather, which at the moment is rain, rain, and more rain. I don’t normally go out to photograph landscapes with black and white in mind, sometimes it just happens post processing, so I had to get into that way of thinking about contrast and pattern to imagine a scene in black and white. Photo’s that look great in colour often don’t in black and white so with this in mind I began my challenge.

1. This is Ziggy, my new pup, he’s a cross between a collie and a retriever, seven weeks old at time of photo.

2. The rain was never ending that day, this was shot in the evening as the rain flowed down the street of Ramelton, a village in Donegal, where I live.

3. Sun for ten minutes! I shot from under the Foyle bridge ( a good place to avoid the rain), the sun shone on bridge for literally ten minutes before receding behind the clouds again.

4.Early morning in Ramelton, Sun lights up the moring mist over the river Lennon creating rays through the trees.

5.Carnisk Bridge and salmon leap, Ramelton, Donegal. Torrential rain flowed down the road finding its way to the river, where the salmon leap was flowing very fast.
